Aerys II Targaryen, King of the Seven Kingdoms

Aerys II of House Targaryen, called the Mad King, King of the Seven Kingdoms (reigned 262 AL - 283 AL) was the only son of Jaehaerys II Targaryen, King of the Seven Kingdoms.

He succeeded his father on the throne.

Aerys married his sister Queen Rhaella. They had three children, Rhaegar, Viserys and Daenerys.

275 AL His second son Viserys was born.

Rickard Stark, Lord of Winterfell was summoned south by King Aerys II.

Brandon Stark was strangled on the Aerys' order a few days before his wedding to Catelyn Tully. His father Rickard Stark, Lord of Winterfell was forced to watch.

King Aerys demanded the heads of Eddard Stark and Robert Baratheon from their warden Jon Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie. He revolted instead.

283 AL Prince Rhaegar was slain on the Trident by Robert Baratheon.

Aerys was killed in the throne room by Ser Jaime Lannister during the Sack of King's Landing.

284 AL His daughter Daenerys was born.
