Warrior Angels: Chronicles Of The Defenders Of Heaven is a short story written by Mike Worth which explains the creation of the Warrior Angels, eight Guardians of the Gate designed to be able to fight anywhere at full power. This is a contrast from the original Guardians, who lose power the father they stray from the gates of Heaven. The story also acts as an exposition for several influential characters in the Blades of the Apocalypse universe.

[edit] Synopsis

Warning: Spoilers below.

Four of the five archangels, along with God, create eight Warrior Angels, powerful Guardians of the Gate whose power is independent of Heaven's gates, to counteract the growing power of Hell's forces. Upon Lucifer's realization that the Warrior Angels exist, he counters with five Sons of Plunder. While formulating a strategy against these new foes, the Warrior Angels stumble upon the rite of Magres Xerfal, but do not have the time to study it fully. The Sons of Plunder appear on Etrah, but are dispatched with remarkable ease by the Warrior Angels.

After their victory, the Warrior Angels join the party on Etrah celebrating victory. Aurumagnus left with Ventusamplus to attempt Magres Xerfal, while Pyrodeus left the party in the company of Etrahn warrior woman Tamina. (This encounter would later prove to be the conception of Visignis.) During this time, the Sons of Plunder receive full power (they had fought at only half their strength before, part of Lucifer's plan to distract the Warrior Angels) and return to Etrah.

Aurumagnus is killed by Magres Xerfal, the transfer of energy made fatal by a mistake in the ceremony. Ventusamplus, stricken with grief, does not leave the Sacred Altar of Divine Power until summoned. Hydrodurus and Silexops are possessed by Ruentomors and Iterophasmos, respectively. With Pyrodeus still with Tamina, the remaining Angels are outnumbered. Eventually the remaining Warrior Angels gather, destroying the Sons of Plunder but with only three Warrior Angels surviving the battle. Fulminerus is later killed by a failed attempt at Magres Xerfal. Cryodivus succeeds and disappears soon after, leaving Pyrodeus as the only surviving Warrior Angel actively defending Heaven.
