Content Move wiki, delete this wiki, create this wiki again and have on the main page in big writing "Hey old users, we have moved to Wikia." He'll find out if he ever wants to come back here again. I assume he'll have no objection, we lose out on nothing, we gain loads more things. EY could be forever seeming he comes on here four times a year. Last time he came here I think the only article he made was deleted. :D
Post Info Drifting 16:59, 12 February 2008 (EST)
Content Give him a bit more time. There's a chance he doesn't get on the computer often.
Post Info Angela 20:50, 11 February 2008 (EST)
Content You're welcome to rename the main page back to "Main Page". The reason I changed it is that it helps the wiki show up higher in the search engine results when people are looking for TimeSplitters information. Sadly, the logo would need to go whether you stayed here or not since it can't legally be used in this way without Wikimedia's permission. Shall we assume that EY's non-response to my email means he has no objection? Angela 20:50, 11 February 2008 (EST)
Post Info Drifting 17:44, 11 February 2008 (EST)
Content Changing the logo shouldn't be a big deal. I'd do it myself if I thought I could do a halfway-decent job at it.

So, besides EY's input, are we all in agreement that we should move to Wikia?

Post Info ILHI 16:19, 11 February 2008 (EST)
Content I can do a new logo, easy. If I can get a hold of the tablet. Also TS4, we can guess sometime 2009, or after.

As for moving, hopefully EY gets here quickly, I can't stand this whoe "two minutes working, twenty-eight minutes not working". Unfortunately I still have three other wikis hosted here.

Post Info Dj master2 19:49, 11 February 2008 (EST)
Content I completly agree with the logo part. Man, it's so annoying, hopefully we'll get a smaller logo. Anyone got any requests like fill in someones stats or something? As Cortez would say "It's time to split! I hope TS4 comes out this july! (starts praying to god)
Post Info ILHI 10:10, 11 February 2008 (EST)
Content Hey guyz, I think I sorted out the page thing so I have nothing against moving the site. Except the Main Page is called "TimeSplitters Wiki." I prefer Main Page, we can change that but is there a rule?

Taking sections out of the infobox will be a great alternative to N/A. So I'm all for it. Only downside is the logo.

Content Family Computer = Most used computer. Not just internet.
Post Info Drifting 14:45, 9 February 2008 (EST)
Content If you don't use many programs besides the Internet, you could adjust your res to 1024x768 and then adjust the text size of your browser.
Post Info ILHI 14:07, 9 February 2008 (EST)
Content I was logged in.

And I know all the things I can do - plus it ain't LCD. It's default is 800x600. I just changed it to 1024x768 and the writing is really small.

Post Info Xylaquin 10:18, 9 February 2008 (EST)
Content When you log in the ads disappear, ILHI. Plus even if it is a family computer, 1024x768 is better. I mean, assuming you have an LCD monitor, doesn't having a lower res than the native res of the monitor make it look a bit icky?

If the size of 1024x768 is such a problem, you can do a few things to make it better whilst still keeping to 1024x768. For example, in your browser, hold down Ctrl and move you mouse-wheel to scale the text. You could also use the Display Properties to make the icons bigger in 1024x768 if that's the problem (or even use disability settings to customize the sizes).

Alternatively, you might prefer to keep 800x600, and use the Ctrl+Mouse-wheel trick to reduce the size of the text in your browser so that things arn't squashed up.

Everything seems to be fine for the move to Wikia IMO, except I really like the logo here :-/

Content One more reason to: Doesn't slowdown as much as EditThis.info.

One more reason against: Mod ILHI uses 600x800 most of the time recently. [1]

No I will not change my screen size. This is a family computer used by several people. Everything becomes smaller, this being annoying. [2]

Unless you can remove side adverts to adverts at the bottom of the page, I am against.

Post Info Angela 08:02, 9 February 2008 (EST)
Content I've set the new wiki to the original monobook skin (the same as this wiki uses). You can either use that, or select one of the other skins in your preferences (cologneblue has no ads, quartz has some extra features). I've sent an email to Elite Yoshi but not heard back from him yet.
Post Info Drifting 17:03, 8 February 2008 (EST)
Content The slowdown Editthis seemed to be having has stopped finally.

As long as we can keep our layout and transfer all of our data, I'm fine with moving to Wikia. There doesn't seem to be a strong reason not to, other than Elite Yoshi.

Post Info Angela 04:51, 6 February 2008 (EST)
Content Firstly, to summarise - by moving, you would have fewer ads, faster speed, more features, and free promotion.

Secondly, to answer your questions -

ILHI - you can customize the navigation to keep it as /contents/other/search/toolbox.

Xylaquin -

  1. You can set monobook as default. Any user can also make their own decision in their preferences about which skin to use.
  2. If you log in, you won't see ads at all!
  3. Error messages can be customized. In fact, any part of the skin and interface can be edited.
Post Info Slagar 20:55, 3 February 2008 (EST)
Content I think we should wait until we get Elite Yoshi's input first. Although I do think that Xylaquin is near equal authority over issues concerning the wiki.
Post Info Xylaquin 14:59, 3 February 2008 (EST)
Content Elite Yoshi is the founder, and one cannot overlook his absence. It was I who designed the system we currently use on the wiki today; the main page, the infoboxes and what goes on a page. You can see here what this wiki was before I arrived. I updated the main sections, the side bar, and assigned a colleague on another forum to design the logo (which I intend to keep).

As such, I have sort of self-proclaimed myself as head-admin, I recruited all the current admins today and act in Elite Yoshi's place in his absence (he does infact seem to periodically visit). Once I had setup the workings of the wiki, I wrote all the TS1 character pages and uploaded the images (on another site).

However I would like to address myself, as after I had completed that my contributions to the wiki decreased. I know consider my job on this wiki as a technician of sorts, I ban spammers, fix errors and create new features. Admins Drifting and ILHI are more prosperous on this wiki than I am now, (I visit everyday actually), but ILHI and Drifting actually make edits (even if these edits do involve slapping NeedInfo banners on every page :P) I am thus currently tuning up the admin page and reviewing the current admins who are inactive.

Now to address the issue of Wikia, I have some questions:

  1. Is it possible to make monobook the default? If we move I'd like it to look as much like the current design as possible.
  2. Is it possible to move the adverts on the right of page (here) to the bottom of the page?
  3. The custom error messages, will they still be possible?

I'm concerned with the adverts because I want to keep this wiki's professionalism (heck, we're so good there's a wiki that steals all our information and uses it on it's own)

Post Info Drifting 11:47, 3 February 2008 (EST)
Content Angela: Elite Yoshi drops in every once in awhile. I would feel guilty moving his wiki without his input just because he doesn't contribute much. It's his wiki after all.

ILHI: I guess it's just a matter of personal opinion. If we were to have embedded videos it wouldn't be a big deal. I'm just saying that my personal preference would be to link to them.

Post Info ILHI 11:45, 3 February 2008 (EST)
Content Well, I don't care much about EY ever coming back. He just started it, he doesn't do much anymore and it is happily maintained by the three active admins.

Don't need widgets, editthis has one method of stopping spam bots, so it's only those sad prats that register and vandalize, although that's part of the fun of being an admin ^_^.

Edit Count is intersting, but not necessary and randomimage would never be used. There's a gallery of new files here.

Meh, page creation is easy enough here, if it's a new user who doesn't know wiki formatting, then they're probably not adding much to the page anyway, which will either be quickly rectified or added to one of our to do lists. [1] [2]. Which either us, or visitors will edit, only if they can add the information or add the infobox.

So, that makes three things, I think.

  1. We can upload all our files to the wiki.
  2. We can embed youtube videos.
  3. We can take sections out of the infobox, right? Just miss out part of the code and it won't show up on the infobox. This will help us loads, we could edit them with TS2 Agility and TSFP agility, and if they don't feature on the games, then we won't feature them in the infobox.

Though, can we still include the navigation (/contents/other/search/toolbox) like it is shown exactly like on this.

Post Info Angela 08:50, 3 February 2008 (EST)
Content Hi again. It's definitely not only about videos, but also about the other features, and also just about having your own wiki in case the founder of this one never comes back.
Post Info ILHI 15:27, 2 February 2008 (EST)
Content Well, here's a wiki that does use embedded youtube videos. I'll let you decide from that.
Post Info Drifting 15:21, 2 February 2008 (EST)
Content Hosting images externally isn't that big of a hassle. Having the space to upload pics would just be more convenient, if not necessary. As for movies, we can just link to those. Having movies embedded into a Wiki page wouldn't look very good anyway.

I suggest we take a poll.

Post Info ILHI 11:07, 2 February 2008 (EST)
Content I don't care much that the images are from external sites, though, having the ability to add youtube videos gives the opportunity to put WR vids in the Arcade League and Challenge articles.

Content Hi guys, listen big news. The reason i haven't been editing the the Wiki latley is school (yes thats right, school) it's been hard to catch up. But i'll do you all a favor. (If i have time) you can do me a request like...you know? Well guys what do you think? I'll try to keep editing the wiki...i promise
Post Info Drifting 15:34, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Content The unlimited space is really the only advantage I can see for moving from Editthis. It would be nice to be able to upload pictures instead of hosting them at Imageshack.
Post Info Angela 01:29, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Content I've set up a demo so you can have a look and see what it's like at Wikia. I've written about some of the advantages and listed the top 10 features. Let me know what you think.
Post Info Angela 21:36, 31 January 2008 (EST)
Content Hi. Xylaquin - I can move the content for you. It's no problem, and of course free. ILHI - there are ads for unregistered users, as with this wiki, but if you use the alternate skins, registered users rarely get ads. I can help you change your personal stylesheet if you want to remove the navigation block. If you want a simpler skin, you might prefer cologne blue. If you want no sidebar at all, then try nostalgia.
Post Info ILHI 12:29, 31 January 2008 (EST)
Content Unless there isn't a big navigation block on the side or advertisements, I can't say I'd prefer it. If it appeared the same as on here.
Post Info Xylaquin 03:47, 31 January 2008 (EST)
Content I personally looked into using Wikia a few months ago, but I couldn't see a way of transferring all the work we've done here onto a new account there. Is there a way to do this free of charge?
Post Info Angela 00:19, 31 January 2008 (EST)
Content Hello everyone! I'm really impressed with how large this wiki is getting. I wanted to let you know that if you would prefer to be a Wikia site, I am happy to help you move this wiki to timesplitters.wikia.com. If you'd like to explore Wikia's other gaming sites, please see the hub at Wikia:Gaming. Wikia uses the same MediaWiki software you have here, but a newer version, with lots of extra features such as widgets if you want them, and easier image uploading. We also have some new designs that you can apply to your wiki - compare the traditional wikipedia skin with the wikia gaming skin. So, what do you think? Would you like me to set up the wiki there so you can try it out?

Content Hey guys, do you think we should add a non-playable maps/areas part. A lot of Challenges use areas of places that would be easier describable in a section. So we make up a name for the place, input it into the article with the link to the Non Playable Map page where it says something along the lines of "The area on You Genius, U-Genix where The Freaks are being tested on. (Boxing Clever)

Though there are many and it seems rather pointless seeming most appear in one level.
