[edit] History

Mary Elizabeth Barrett was born on May 30, 1883 in Petaluma, California to Arthur Campbell Barrett and Emily Jane "Emma" Linebaugh. She was married to O.C. Thurman on August 20, 1905 in Eugene at her father's home. In 1921, O.C. Thurman bought the feed stable form Barnes on Main Street, Springfield. The family built and moved in to their house in 1928 on 100 Mill Street and sold it a few years later. At this time, the State of Oregon condemned the land to build Main Street bridge across the Willamette River. her husband built the gas station with outside lube pit at west end of office. Sometime before his death, he sold to John McGinty. He died on December 1, 1940 in Eugene and was placed in the P.J. Bartholomew funeral home. O.C. was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery. She was still living in Springfield in 1954 and 1971. According to Karen (Thurman) Runk, Mary (Barrett) Thurman "carried on the family tradition of raising beautiful flowers and vegetables on her little lot at 3rd and D in Springfield. I remember picking fresh raspberries off her vines until I was sick. Staying at her home while that train went by her house. Now it is Pioneer Parkway East."

She died in Lane County on January 16, 1976 and was buried next to her husband.
