The Nightwind IV is Subsourian's primary command ship, a hulking super-carrier armed with some of the most lethal weapons in the SWDF arsenal, including the feared Yamato Cannon. The ship was originally designed two thousand years ago, in the age of the Imperial Yoshis, but since has been upgraded with modern weapons. However, many of the ancient mana weapons are still intact and the ships Dark Mana Reactor makes the sheer process of keeping the ship stable a dangerous one.
However, the ship continues to be a staple of the SWDF, being one of the most famed ships in it's navy, along with the Starcruiser Prime. It's trademark Hammerhead design has become the model for the myriad of other SWDF battlecruisers.

History
Nightwind I
The Nightwind was Subsourian's own design for a capitol ship during his reign over the Imperial Yoshis. Through melding technology and arcane studies, he created a ship out of elementite, a powerful magic-resistance stone that is now all but depleted due to the Axis Wars. Several mana guns ran off of the caster's own mana, and were highly unstable. Subsourian himself designed the Dark Mana reactor, allowing the ship to push its power far beyond conventional limits, though the original model risked demonic wormholes and dimensional rips within the ship.
The first design also faced the problem of, quite literally, being a flying rock. Elementite alone is not a mailable substance, so the ship resembled more of a crude cathedral than a capitol ship. The elemenite, originally intended to nullify the magitech of the Starlite Empire, in some cases increased its power against it.
The Nightwind I saw a single battle, and though it survived, Subsourian ordered it to be rebuilt, with more technological aspects to outweigh its high magitech.
Nightwind II
Thus the Nightwind II was designed. This ship was made with more conventional laser weaponry, and the entire hull was redone in favor of a Frantinium-Elementite Alloy. Here, it gained its trademark hammerhead shape, which continues to exist on its model. Four primary Air-Air and four Air-Ground batteries were installed, and the design on several of the mana cannons were improved.
One of the scattered human nations, seeking favor of the Imperial Yoshis, designed a special plasma cannon for the ship. This came to be known as the Yamato Cannon, a devastating blow on par with a very small nuclear blast. It has since become the most used weapon on the ship, and even today continues to lethal in ship-to-ship combat.
The Nightwind II had a long service life, surviving most of the Axis Wars. It became Subsourian's base of operations for many a campaign, and a devastating symbol of the Imperial Yoshis.
However, in the Battle of Starel, the Nightwind II was destroyed with the rest of the Axis fleet. Subsourian barely survived the encounter, the ship's failsafe being the only reason they survived.
Nightwind III
With the destruction of the Nightwind II, a new command ship needed to be created. Subsourian ordered a new model of the Nightwind, similar to the last to be created.
Several issues with the old model was addressed. Small fighters were able to bypass the ships massive arms. Thus, a bay for Plasma Torpedoes was installed, allowing for waves of smaller seeker torpedoes to be used against their foes.
Also being developed at the time were the first primitive nuclear arms. As such a missile bay was developed, with the ability to launch standard size nukes from high orbit. Several armor modifications were also made, as well as stabilizing the Dark Mana Reactor.
The Foxer Coup forced Subsourian into exile, though he was allowed to float in the Nightwind III with his hyper-space (primitive slipspace) drive shut down. The ship survived the rigorous journey over 1500 years, keeping stable until it finally reached Star World.
After it engaged and devistated group of COUE ships, the Yoshi Bodyguards allowed Sub to join their ranks (Him having fought them in their past in a time crisis), thus merging the ship into their limited space fleet.
Nightwind IV
It was Sneezier that decided to refit the Nightwind III, completely overhauling it for the modern era. At the risk of many magitech artifacts, which were all but non-existent after the long Axis Wars ended.
The Nightwind IV was outfitted with Lascannons to reform its old Reflector model cannons. The ship was outfitted with fighter and mech transport bays, refitted with a more powerful Deznium alloy (using the old armor as a base in order to keep the Elementite). The Nightwind IV could now repair itself in mid-transit, and was outfitted with a slipspace drive to replace the destroyed old hyperspace model.
The Nightwind IV's service continues, destroying all enemies of Star World foolish enough to get in its way. It had beaten the COUE, Dark Perforation, Metal Army, and even survived the very Dark Ages. It has been boarded, bombarded, and nearly destroyed, but it continues to exist as Subsourian's favored ship. Much to the SWDF's distaste, the ship is not under their command, rather still under Subsourian's ownership. Should he leave the SWDF, the Nightwind IV would go with him.

Ships of the Line
The Nightwind IV's primary design has been copied several times, being made into medium to heavy assault ships. With the exhaustion of elementite, however, the magi-tech systems have been all but removed. Instead, the newer designs use a purely technological apparatus, focusing on raw firepower. Many of these ships still retain the trademark Yamato Cannon, now a symbol of the Battlecruiser line.

Trivia
- The Nightwind IV is based off the design for the Behemoth Class Battlecruiser from Starcraft.
- The Nightwind IV has appeared the most out of any ship in the Yoshi Bodyguards, though at some instances being portrayed with some continuity flaws (landing, being damaged from the ground).
- The Nightwind I never actually appeared, the ship line appearing in the Yoshi Military starting at Nightwind II. After it was destroyed in the RP, the Nightwind III came to be. The Nightwind IV was made during the transition to the Yoshi Bodyguards.
- For much the early Yoshi Bodyguards (When it was running in simultaneously with the Yoshi Military), the Nightwind III was used. Sub changed this to IV when the timeline connecting the two was established.
- The Yamato Particle Cannon is a homage to the World War II Japanese battleship Yamato, the largest real world battleship ever produced. The actual weapon was taken from the Behemoth Class Battlecruiser from Starcraft, which in term based its design off of the anime Space Battleship Yamato.
