"What is wrong with you? You guys have taken too many privileges. Remember, I'M the leader. The only leader. I decide if we go somewhere or not. I decided to attack a region, person, or creature, or not. I decide it. Not you. Not any of you. I know Yoshi. allowed you to do so, but it was probably because he was busy with bigger problems, like dealing with his sons. I will not let you guys get out of hand. I will not. I promised Yoshi. I would be a good leader to this organization, and so I will not break my word."
-Anubis, The Yoshi Bodyguards
Anubis is a black wolf who was adopted by Asmodeus Yoshiler on the day his mother died, the same day that Summer was born. It was later learned that Anubis and Summer shared a split spirit. After Asmodeus' death and The Dark Ages, Anubis became the new leader of the YB until Asmodeus III was old enough to take over. During this time a secondary spirit came to inhabit Anubis' body named Samael, and though the Anubis spirit has technically passed on, many still refer to him as Anubis.

History
Anubis and Summer
Anubis' spirit was split too late between the light and dark dimensions, causing both the light and dark halves of the spirit to fall to the light dimension. The dark half attacked and killed a pregnant wolf mother, prompting the light half to go into the last surviving wolf cub, which would be adopted by Asmodeus. The dark half would go into the baby yoshi Asmodeus adopted and named Summer. Anubis and Summer would spend much of their time together, being left behind by Asmodeus as he chased after the demons led by Varfudor. This left Summer bitter, combined with being the dark half of Anubis' light half, and Summer made a plan to attack Asmodeus (it may have been Winter). Before he could, Anubis' barking gave him away and he attacked Anubis instead.
Summer later tried to make up for this by giving Anubis a fruit he found called a polmo fruit, which led to Anubis gaining the ability to speak. Summer was still the dark half, however, and joined Varfudor and killed Asmodeus, taking his newly-born son Asmodeus III. This led to The Dark Ages, and Summer becoming the corrupt and powerful Lord Farzar; inversely, this caused Anubis, as the light half, to become weaker but also wiser. He confronted Varfudor and Farzar and was able to save Asmodeus III, using a Yoshiler family emblem to awaken the Superturtle (or whatever) which put the Eater of Worlds and some giant warrior chicken or something back to sleep. This also destroyed the Titans somehow.
Samael
Anubis reunited with the YB and before long Star World was rejuvenated. Anubis became the new leader of the YB, and was also put in charge of raising Asmodeus III. However, around this time Phazon began infecting Star World; a Phazon mutant of Anubis was created to try and trick the YB. Feeling insulted that the YB did not know him enough to see through the fake's lies, Anubis left. However, he soon returned, remembering his promise to Asmodeus.
As leader of the YB, he began to oversee the inclusion of new members. However, he continued to age incredibly quickly, though he still accompanied the YB on missions such as when the Shadow King invaded Star World. He entered the Shadow Dimension with the others so that they could create new Crystal Stars and a jet black Crystal Star was formed after sensing his presence. With the Crystal Stars they were able to destroy the Shadow King and free the Shadow Dimension from his tyrannical rule.
When they returned, they realized they had left Chibi and Luigi behind, and Anubis went to find them. The stress from carrying the injured Luigi and Mr. Game and Watch caused him to collapse. He later awoke and traveled to a frozen lake where a group of gray wolves attacked him; when they left, he collapsed as a snow-white wolf approached him. When he awoke, he found himself in a kingdom made entirely of ice and snow.
Anubis was brought to see the queen, who called him Winmer, the true son of Anubis' murdered mother, murdered by the ice kingdom's mortal enemies who had been experimenting with Phazon. She gave him a warning, and he was escorted home by a white fox named Amar. However, soon after Amar reappeared outside the HQ, his fur stained. He collapsed, dying, but said that someone destroyed the kingdom before dying. At this, Anubis ran to the north, but when he arrived at the destroyed kingdom collapsed.
When Anubis awoke, all around him was white except for two blue eyes; it was at that point that Anubis became Samael Winmer, who he was meant to be, as the spirit known as Anubis had been intended for Asmodeus' second adopted son. With this he gained a whole host of new powers and abilities he had to learn to keep under control, but he was now young again and unable to die of old age. He tried to return to the YB HQ, but his new powers created so much wind and energy that he sent the lobby into temporary chaos and was hardly visible by the members. He tried to enter the HQ again and made it, though he was now quite changed and before long he lost control again and disappeared. The third time he tried he managed to stay in the HQ.
The Titan of Phazon
Sometime later the Phazon-Anubis mutant returned, but with Anubis' new powers as Samael he quickly dispatched it. He began to have nightmares, though, and went looking for Saarlos, but he was unable to find her. He detected that Koop was in trouble and realized he had been infected with phazon. He brought him back to the HQ, along with an infected shy guy named Shuy. Koop had trouble fighting the phazon, so Anubis entered his mind to help him. He was thrown out by the phazon, though, but got Koop into a containment field to drain the phazon from him and Shuy.
Anubis later returned to Loch Yoshiler to speak with Saarlos and learn more about his abilities, and about the split between light and dark halves that involved his and Summer's connection. He later ascended to the third plane of existence, where only a few minutes went by for him while a few days went by on the lower plane. A luminoth named V-Mos came to Anubis to tell him the YB needed him, and he returned to learn it was about to rain phazon across the planet. They used Koop's computer to send out a message across the planet to get indoors and avoid the phazon rain. Anubis and V-Mos then ascended the planes again to send the message out further through creatures' auras.
After returning they heard a loud cracking and realized the nearby forest was becoming phazon-mutated. As the YBs fled in their ships, Anubis and V-Mos ascended again to escape. They managed to track down where the phazon was originating, and directed the rest of the YB to go there. The phazon was all coming from a vast crater, inside of which was the remains of the Titan of Thunder, Sango, now itself mutated with phazon. When the YB arrived Anubis gave them all light shields to shield them from the phazon. They entered a cavern and found a vast room where a 70-foot long phazon-colored cobra was situated: the Titan of Thunder, Sango, inside the body of a cobra that merged with a Metroid Prime that had landed on Star World.
Anubis tried to hit Sango with a light beam, but the attack was ineffective. Sango retaliated with a massive blast that destroyed Anubis' light shield and seemed to kill him; Sango then ate him. Inside Sango he was somehow eaten by a phazon-mutated Koop, who had been eaten by Sango earlier. Sango then spewed up Koop, who spewed up Anubis. Sango began to absorb all the phazon on the planet, including the phazon that had mutated creatures on the planet: Anubis included. Once he had been absorbed he overloaded Sango's body and it exploded. Anubis then destroyed the rest of Sango and absorbed all of its phazon.
Infected
Absorbing all the phazon began to change Anubis, not in looks but in personality. He and Saarlos had an argument, with Anubis becoming hot-headed and the queen saying he was self-centered and power hungry. Saarlos left, but Anubis began getting sick from the phazon. Although he had the power to fight it, he chose not to. Later he sent Shuy to locate Saarlos, but he couldn't find her; he attempted to train Shuy to use phazon in his body instead of getting sick from it.
During this time, Anubis ascends to the higher planes to face the Milvaths; during these encounters, he feels weak in comparison, reminding him of his old self. Later, though, he realized that Az, having gone in a journey to prove himself, was in trouble and needed help. He realized his error and removed the phazon from his body, and returned to the YBs for assistance. He realized Az was in more trouble than he thought, though, and left alone to help him. He arrived at Hylia and entered Koholint Isle, where he found Az but became trapped on the island with him. Seeking help, they sent a message telepathically to PB to come and bring the other YBs for help.
Soon Anubis sensed that the YBs had arrived, and he went to greet them at the beach. They learned from an owl that shadows have invaded the island, and that they need to open the giant egg on the mountain by finding eight instruments. On their way to the first, though, Anubis tells Az that he is the rightful leader of the YB, and that it's time for him to lead; Anubis leaves for him to begin his leadership duties. During this time he contacts Sunset and Subsourian, the latter of whom had been speaking to Sunset via telepathy, to warn them that the leader of the shadows was tracking them through the telepeathy.
Anubis realized that a coyote named Mermus, the opposite-universe version of Summer, was also on the island trying to collect the instruments. Mermus succeeded in getting two instruments, but Anubis distracted him while the YBs hurried to get the fourth. Anubis was able to take the two instruments Mermus had, as well as gather the other four and meet back with the YBs. With all eight instruments, they were able to enter the egg on top of the mountain and meet what appeared to be the Wind Fish. It refused to let them leave, but after some vague threats it gave them a choice.
The Wind Fish claimed to release Winter and Asmodeus II, who it claimed to have saved from dying; though Anubis was wary at first, he was convinced when Asmodeus II appeared, only for the Samael spirit within him to realize it was all a trick and that the Wind Fish was really Lord Farzar, who had been injured and gone to sleep on Koholint, slowly regaining his energy, explaining why neither he nor Mermus wanted them to awaken him. Anubis sees through the trick, and Farzar shows them a vision of him killing Asmodeus II.
Mermus and the other YKKKs arrived and tried to stop them from leaving the island. Anubis was able to take down Mermus and stop Asmodeus from killing his counterpart and thus killing himself; together they then went to face off against Farzar, the darker half of Anubis' spirit. Farzar revealed that it was he who killed Samael's mother, leaving Anubis in a state of shock and regressing to his belief of himself as an old, helpless wolf. When he remembered Az, though, he regained his spirit and they took down Farzar, killing him.
They escaped the island and met the Wind Fish, who sent them back to the real world. Anubis had now died, but this left Samael in his rightful body.
Personal Information
Personality
Appearance
Anubis was a black wolf who aged rapidly, giving him many scars, including, but not limited to, a half-blind eye, a few broken teeth, and weakened paws. (More to be added since I think becoming Samael changed his appearance)
Abilities
After the spirit of Samael came to inhabit Anubis' body, he gained many new abilities such as controlling light, ascending through the planes of existence, and viewing living things' auras. He also become immortal, unable to die of old age.
Family
Asmodeus
- Main Article: Asmodeus Yoshiler
Asmodeus adopted Anubis when he was just born, after his mother had been killed. Anubis respected Asmodeus very much, and pledged to carry on his legacy, becoming the leader of the YB and raising Asmodeus III.
Winter
Winter was an adopted brother, a yoshi adopted by Asmodeus. I'm not sure if they ever really met though.
Summer
Summer was not only an adopted brother (another yoshi adopted by Asmodeus), but they were said to be closer than brothers: the same person. The spirit that inhabited Anubis' body was originally intended to inhabit Summer's, while the spirit that inhabited Summer's was meant to be the spirit of a dark version of Summer from an alternate dimension. Due to this they are somewhat reversed: when Summer became Lord Farzar and grew powerful and corrupted, Anubis grew weak but wise. Anubis eventually destroyed Summer/Farzar, allowing the spirit of Anubis to pass on while Samael, the spirit originally set to inhabit the wolf cub, lived on.
Asmodeus III
The only related son of Asmodeus, Anubis took it upon himself to raise Az after his father died. For the most part he was unsure how well this was going, but was just as surprised as everyone to find out Az was actually quite intelligent and had been goading everyone to think he was a loony brat. Anubis sent Az on a journey to train himself to become the leader of the YB, after which the role of leader passed on to him.
Residence
