Nadia wasn't born with her powers. She grew up for her first fifteen years in Sydney with her parents and older sister, attending school and being a very regular teenage girl, chatting with friends, going to the movies, procrastinating from her homework... and so on.
Until the Observatory blew up in Sydney in October, 1998.
A week after the smoke had settled, Nadia's back started to itch furiously and she could feel her muscles shifting and growing. Another week after that, and wings had started to grow from her shoulderblades.
