During his four years in the Senate, Vandenberg became known as one of the Congress' most fiscally conservative members, often working with Senator Steve Rayburn to control and reduce federal spending, with mixed success. One of the bills Vandenberg sponsored, the Firearm Registry Prohibition and Commerce Protection Act, was signed into law by President Whitney Mason in 2020, effectively repealing most of the National Firearms Act of 1934 and Gun Control Act of 1968.
