Match Report Summer 2010
A more than respectable performance in Div H West with three wins, a draw and an end-of-season loss in a rearranged fixture.
After a warm up cup game on the grass against Ashford which was lost on games, we took on Westside vii at home (yes, that’s their seventh team) and won 3-1, with two wins for Malcolm and Jack and one for Andrew and Jeremy.
Away to Reigate two weeks later Malcolm and Jack suffered a rare defeat but still won a rubber. Andrew and Jeremy managed to nick a Champions’ Tie Break in the decider to secure another 3-1 win and two more points.
Back on the grass against a young and hard-hitting St Georges’ Hill, Malcolm and Jack hit top form with two wins whilst Jeremy and Andrew lost both. But a draw a good result all the same and more importantly a highly sociable drink afterwards (though not without the opposition).
A third home match on the grass in August against Westside viii and a routine 4-0 win with Andrew teaming up with his old buddy Malcolm and Peter Lloyd-Jones stepping up from the Seconds to team up with Club stalwart Peter Light.
So unbeaten going into the final game against Reigate on Sept 26 but a reversal 1-3 with Malcolm and Jack winning one and Andrew and Lighty losing two.
Seven points should be enough for promotion. Thanks to all who played, particularly the Chairman Mr Meatyard with six appearances (an ever present) and club singles finalists Malcolm and Jack with five and four appearances respectively.
