Thursday 24th September
- London Wetland Centre: Spotted Crake still on the Main Lake from Dulverton Hide 14:20hrs (Birdguides).
- Enfield: Goshawk circled low over junction of Hertford Road/Ordnance Road, near Co-op (Birdguides).
- Beddington SF: 14+ Common Buzzard (KJM).
- London Wetland Centre: 29 Wigeon, 146 Gadwall, 150 Teal, 105 Shoveler, 2 Hobby, 45 Lapwing, 13 Common Snipe, Common Whitethroat, 7 Blackcap, 30+ Chiffchaff (LWC website); Great White Egret on the grazing marsh at 12.10 then flew to the River Thames (RBA). Flew S towards Putney, may have landed again, at low tide though not relocated by 13.24 (per Rupert Kaye).
- Alexandra Park: Woodlark over filter beds 0805 then over between Blandford Hall and station 0807 (John Murray, Bob Watts), 2 Yellow Wagtails, Whinchat perimeter cricket pitch 0700, fem Stonechat scrub, Reed Bunting until 0738 in scrub, male Peregrine, 3 Shelduck NE 0723, Spotted Flycatcher scrub, 20+ Mipits, 2 Skylarks, 4 House Martins (Bob Watts, Stuart Harrington, Dominic Mitchell).
- Rainham Marshes: possible immature Great White Pelican high east over the Thames 13:45hrs (Birdguides); although not immature it may be worth someone checking if the free-flying St. James' Park bird has gone awol (DMc).
- Osterley Park: Lesser Spotted Woodpecker in enclosure behind Middle Lake then flew into car park woods; Grey Wagtail (patch tick); f Whinchat, pr Stonechat, m Reed Bunting, 2 Whitethroat, 12 Meadow Pipit; 4 Nuthatch, 2 Coal Tit, Kingfisher (Tom Smith).
- Paddington Green: m Sparrowhawk took Long-tailed Tit, House Martin, 2 Grey Wagtail, 3 'alba' Wagtail SW together 09:40hrs, Chiffchaff and Goldcrest with tit-flock, dumpy looking finch north 10:05hrs (probably Bullfinch but not clinched) (Des McKenzie).
- Tower Hamlets Cemetery: 4+ Chiffchaffs including a very grey individual, perhaps abietinus (Bob Watts).
- Kensington Gardens: Common Buzzard drifted south 12:20hrs (Birdguides).
- Bedfont Lakes Country Park: 2 Kingfisher, 14 Gadwall, Yellow Wagtail over (Adam Cheeseman)
- Fulham: ad Yellow-legged Gull on Fulham side of River Thames, half way between Hammersmith and Putney bridges, opposite London Wetland Centre (Birdguides).
- Crossness/Barking Bay (WeBs count): Cormorant 79, Great Crested Grebe 4, Grey Heron 3, Canada Goose 9, Teal 306, Shelduck 159, Mallard 26, Gadwall 3, Common Sandpiper 1, Oystercatcher 1, Redshank 43, Black-tailed Godwit 27, Lapwing 33, Common Tern 7, Sandwich Tern 3. - Rainham Marshes: juv Puffin on Thames drifting downriver at 14.41 pm, last reported 1505 as dot below QE2 Bridge, Dartford (RBA), 22 Wigeon, Pintail, 85 Shoveler, Common Buzzard west 08:20hrs, 8 Little Egret, 5 Redshank, 7 1st-year Yellow-legged Gull, 22 Great Black-backed Gull, 17 Ring-necked Parakeet, 7 Skylark, 4 Swallow, 40 Meadow Pipit, 2 Yellow Wagtail, 4 Grey Wagtail, 3 Kingfisher, 6 Whinchat, 2 fem Stonechat, 2 Northern Wheatear, 7 Cetti's Warbler, Common Whitethroat, 6 Blackcap, 8 Chiffchaff, 45 House Sparrow, 15 Chaffinch, 20 Greenfinch, 80 Goldfinch, 40 Linnet (ELBF).
- Stoke Newington Reservoirs: at least one Firecrest still, now with small mixed flock of tits and c6 Chiffchaffs, but mobile (due mainly to neighbouring demolition work) around LWT garden area; open until 1830 this eve. Also Coal Tit, singing Blackcap, 7 Wigeon, juv Hobby through at 1640 (Mark Pearson).
- London Wetland Centre: Spotted Crake (north shore of Main Lake, best seen from Dulverton Hide), 22 Wigeon, 77 Gadwall, 20 Teal, 84 Shoveler, Sparrowhawk, Water Rail, 16 Common Snipe, Collared Dove, 2 Kingfisher, Meadow Pipit over, 3 Grey Wagtail, 2 Reed Warbler, 8 Blackcap, 31 Chiffchaff, 4 Goldcrest (LWC website), Turtle Dove north (Birdguides), Yellow Browed Warbler early afternoon in roving flock; including Wood Warbler, 4 Chiffchaffs, 2 Willow warblers, 1 Blackcap, 1 Goldcrest, 4 Blue tit & 6 L.t.tits (last seen near Wildside) Also Hobby over (J. - Tyttenhanger GPs: Hobby, 25 Yellow Wagtails with cattle in the field next; also White-cheeked Pintail (Main Pit) (HertsBirding).
- Alexandra Park: 2 Swallows SW, 12 Mipits, 10 alba Wagtails over Cricket Scrub 0655-0725, also 5+ Blackcaps Cricket Scrub, 2 Jackdaws south (Bob Watts); juv Jackdaw still by nursery near first ramp (David Callahan).
- Wanstead Flats (06.45 - 07:30): 2 Whinchat, 3 Reed Bunting, 300+ Woodpigeon, 6 Teal, 2 Gadwall, 4 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap,4 Meadow Pipit, 5 Skylark (S Fisher)
- Brent Reservoir: 23 Wigeon, 150+ Shoveler, 3 Lapwing, 11 Snipe, 2 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper, 8 Chiffchaff, 3 Reed Bunting, 4 Jackdaw, c.350 Woodpigeon on West Hendon Playing Fields at 07.15 (Andrew Haynes, Roy Beddard).
- Dartford Marshes: juv Turtle Dove with several hundred Woodpigs, Feral Pigs, Collared Doves and Stock Doves in stubble fields opposite shooting club 7:30 am (Chris Wilkinson).
- East India Dock Basin NR: Kingfisher, 1 Lessser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, 4 Chiffchaffs (1 singing) (Gary A James).
- Margravine Cemetery area: Coal Tit, mixed flock of 8 Long-Tailed Tit & 3 Blue Tit, ? Wagtail heard third day running (Nathalie Mahieu).
- Crayford Marsh: 2 Whinchats, Wheatear, 4 Greenshanks, Stonechat, Little Egret, 14 Swallows, 7 House Martins, 8 Chiffchaffs, Common Sandpiper, 24 Ringed Plovers, 8 Dunlin, 28 Redshanks (Kev Jarvis).
- Little Britain Lake: 2 Gadwall, several Chiffchaff (some singing), GS Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, parties of tits (Roger Dewey).
- Trout Lane (Cowley to Yiewsley): 1 Little Grebe, GC Grebe inc. young, several Chiffchaff, Blackbird, Dunnock, Wren, parties of tits (Roger Dewey).
- South Norwood Lake: f Mandarin Duck, c10 Tufted Duck, 8 Cormorant, Grey Heron, f Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Hobby, c12 Long-tailed Tit, c25 Redwing over, Chiffchaff (John Watson & Gavin Hawgood).
- Vicarage Farm, Enfield: 1 Tawny Owl, being mobbed by other birds (Song Thrush, Chaffinch et al), 07:49; 1 Common Whitethroat; 3 Blackcap; 3 Chiffchaff (Robert Callf).
- Broadwater GP: Greenshank on shingle spit at Harefield Lake, ad & 1w Yellow-legged Gull, 6 Little Egret, 2 Egyptian Geese, Buzzard, Hobby, Kingfisher and 2 Meadow Pipits (Martin Sullivan). 8 Yellow-legged Gulls and 11 Little Egrets roosting this evening. Also a bat hunting Hobby (Judith & Martin Sullivan). While watching the Hobby chasing bats it briefly did an uncanny impresion of a Nightjar - because of this I have some doubts about my earlier record of a Nightjar, and feel it is better not to claim it(MS).
- Kilburn High Road: Peregrine west c14:00hrs (Des McKenzie).
- Horsenden Hill: Kingfisher (David Howdon).
- Harlington (stubble fields N of Park Inn, Heathrow): c.1,000 Woodpigeons with many Feral Pigeons and Stock Doves, Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel, 10+ Chiffchaffs in large tit flock (Pete Naylor).
- Bedfords Park: 4 Ring-necked Parakeet, 30 Meadow Pipit, 5 Chiffchaff (ELBF).
- Queen Elizabeth II Res: Hobby, Peregrine, 2 Northern Wheatear (SBC).
Tuesday 22nd September
- Stoke Newington Reservoirs: Raven low and north over LWT garden pursued by three Carrion Crows at 1300hrs; 2 Firecrests, together and calling, immediately around the platform in the LWT garden, 1445-1515 at least, then viewable from the office, 1520-1528; 5 Chiffchaffs, 7 Wigeon, 74 Shoveler, 37 Gadwall, plus the usuals. The office is open until dusk this evening, but beware the afterschool in the classroom! (Mark Pearson).
- London Wetland Centre: Spotted Crake still on the Main Lake from Dulverton Hide, Wood Warbler at Sheltered Lagoon, Yellow-browed Warbler still near WWF hide at 0740 then near Headley Hide at 10.00 am now calling infrequently, 3 Hobbies, 3 migrant Sparrowhawks SW, 2 Y.L. Gulls on playing fields (1 ad, 1 1st cal year) 43 Swallows SW, 11 House Martins SW, 1 Rock Pipit w, 20 Meadow Pipits W, 2 Grey Wagtails High NW + 3 on site, 38 Chiffchaffs, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, 10 Blackcaps, 4 migrant Goldcrests, 75 Greenfinches West, 34 Goldfinches west (NPS); 35 Wigeon, 90 Gadwall, 24 Teal, 73 Shoveler, Water Rail, Common Snipe (LWC website)
- Broxbourne Woods: 2 Firecrest amongst tit-flock at Danemead NR 08:00hrs (Birdguides).
- South Norwood Lake: 9 Cormorant, 10 Tufted Duck, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Nuthatch, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Chiffchaff (John Watson).
- Alexandra Park: Whinchat Cricket Scrub 0745 (Gareth Richards), 4 Chiffchaffs, 5+ Blackcaps 0700-0725 (Bob Watts); Little Egret north late evening over boat pond (J. Murray).
- Rainham: Ring-necked Parakeet over Upminster Rd North @ 08:00, Hobby over Up. Rd South at 08:40, Blackcap singing in garden of Rainham Hall @ 08:55 (Richard Harrison).
- Springfield Park: 6 Chiffchaffs, 10 Goldcrests, 2 Coal Tits, 10 Song Thrushes, 45 House Martins and 2 Meadow Pipits over (Mark Pearson Hackney Wildlife).
- Paddington Green (seen from): distant and fairly high buzzard-sized raptor moving south over Tottenham Court Road area 10:58hrs-11:00hrs (probably Common Buzzard), Chiffchaff (Des McKenzie).
- Brent Res: Chiffchaff, 5 House Martins, 24 Wigeon, 11 Snipe, Green Sand, Common Sand, resident 3 Lapwings (Patrick Hagglund, John Gravatt, Andrew Verrall).
- Holmethorpe SPs: Cetti's Warbler on Watercolour Lagoon 1 (early mornings best) (SBC).
- Queen Elizabeth II Res: Peregrine, Dunlin (SBC).
- River Roding (Woodford Bridge): Little Egret (Alan Hobson).
- Willows Farm, London Colney: 19 Yellow Wagtail, feeding amongst cows (Robert Callf).
- Wormwood Scrubs: 1 Hobby, 4 Swallow, c6 Chiffchaff, c20 Meadow Pipit, 1 Grey Wagtail, & 6 Jackdaw (David Lindo).
- Trent Park: 2 Common Buzzard, Spotted Flycatcher (Pete Lowman), 1 cock Pheasant (Ice House Wood) also 1 Hobby (Michael Mac).
- Woodoaks Farm: 1 Common Buzzard, 4 Greylag Goose over, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 GS Woodpecker. Thorough search revealed no Yellow Wagtail (Roger Dewey).
- Tyttenhanger GP's: Hobby, Buzzard, 9 Yellow Wagtail (Willows Farm) (Steve B).
- Vicarage Farm: 2 Common Buzzard in fields then low into Trent Park, Green Woodpecker (Michael Mac).
- Rainham Marshes: 2 Hobby, juv m Peregrine, Kingfisher, 5 Yellow Wagtail, 7 Whinchat, 6 Northern Wheatear (ELBF).
- South Norwood CP (14:30-15:30hrs): 2 Little Grebe, Grey Heron, 6 Black-headed Gull, Common Gull, Herring Gull, 2 Chiffchaff, 1m Reed Bunting (CroydonBirders).
- Ruislip: Redwing calling late at night (Martin Sullivan).
Monday 21st September
- Debden (Loughton) - along brook from Willingale Road towards BofE Printing Works: 1 Kingfisher, 1 Grey wagtail, 1 Little Egret (Nigel May).
- Tyttenhangar GP: Glossy Ibis attempted to land on pit mid-a.m. then flew north ( Steve Blake ).
- Selsdon: Honey Buzzard low over Selsdon Wood going SE (RDW).
- Woodoaks Farm: 2 Red Kite, 3 Buzzard and a Kestrel. No sign of any Yellow Wagtails amongst cattle anymore (Charlotte and Martin Sullivan).
- London Wetland Centre: Yellow-browed Warbler called briefly from south side of Sheltered Lagoon a.m.; also Kestrel, 4 Hobby, 14 Common Snipe, 11 Meadow Pipit SE, 5 Blackcap, 35+ Chiffchaff (LWC website); Spotted Crake this p.m. (RBA); Spotted Crake showed well on main lake island from Dulverton Hide 1745-1755 (Jonathan Dean).
- Brent Res.: 23 Wigeon, 1 Green Sand., 1Common Sand., 4 Lapwing, 9 Snipe, a few Ciffs and Blackcap (Roy Beddard).
- Rainham Marshes: Black-necked Grebe, Marsh Harrier, 2 Hobby, pr Peregrine, 7 Avocets, 25 Ringed Plover, Grey Plover, 7 Dunlin, 8 Black-tailed Godwits, 6 Greenshank, Common Sandpiper, 5 Stonechat, 3 Northern Wheatear (ELBF).
- Wanstead Flats, 7:20am-8:30am: 6 Skylark, 7 Meadow Pipit, Whinchat, 4 Mistle Thrush, 2 Swallow, 3 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Blackcap, Willow Warbler, 4 Chiffchaff, Greenfinch, up to 6 Jay busy storing acorns, 4 Jackdaw (J Lethbridge).
- Banstead Downs: 1 Brambling over central footpath then called from north wood c.6.25pm also 1 Common Buzzard south, 6 Swallows and 7+ House Martins through, 1 Meadow Pipit, 2-3 Linnet, 1 Willow Warbler, 2+ Blackcaps, 4+ Chiffchaffs, 3 Rose-ringed Parakeets over, 1+ Great Spotted and 2 Green Woodpeckers, 1 fem Sparrowhawk, c.25 Jackdaws over, 1 Coal Tit, 1 Song Thrush ENE and 1 presumably migrant Mistle Thrush (David K Campbell).
- Belmont Pastures: 1 Yellow Wagtail ENE at 7.47am (David K Campbell).
- Paddington Green: Grey Wagtail, 4 Chiffchaff with tit-flock (Des McKenzie).
- Tottenham Hale: 200+ House Martins feeding and drifting SW over Ferry Lane Estate N17 (Quentin Given).
- Alexandra Park: Reed Bunting 0758 on edge of deer paddock in Top Field, 9+ Chiffchaffs, 30+ House Martins north (!) (David Callahan); 3 Chiffchaffs, 4 Blackcaps, 1 Mipit, 1 RN Parakeet at & over Cricket Scrub 0655-0725 (Bob Watts); Whinchat Cricket Scrub 1755 (James Palmer).
- Wormwood Scrubs: c900 House Martin heading north over 2 hours - 0730 - 0930, c4 Swallow heading south, c100 Meadow Pipit mostly from the north, 2 Whinchat, c6 Chiffchaff, 1 Collared Dove, 3 Sparrowhawk & 4 Jackdaw (David Lindo & Anders Price).
- River Roding (Woodford Bridge): Little Egret, Kingfisher, Sparrowhawk, Mistle Thrush (Alan Hobson).
- Black Park: 11 Chaffinch, 10 Mandarins (6m 4f), 2 Nuthatch, flocks of Coal Tits, Blue Tits, Gt Tits & LT Tits, 1 Canada Goose (Sue Giddens).
- South Lodge Farm, Enfield: 3 Yellow Wagtail, feeding amongst horses, 11:45 (Robert Callf).
- Vicarage Farm, Enfield: 1 fem/imm Northern Wheatear, on ploughed field, 08:23; 5 Skylark; 2 Common Whitethroat, together, Barracks; 1 juv Bullfinch (Robert Callf).
- Ruislip: Hobby over High Street at 1420 (Charlotte and Martin Sullivan).
- Uxbridge: 2 Buzzard sp? flying east at 13.10 over the Bicentenary Gardens at Brunel University (Steve Pash).
- Ingrebourne Valley: 3 Yellow Wagtails, 1 Grey Wagtail (Shaun Harvey).
- Kensington Green W8: single Jackdaw over N/NE 13:45hrs (John Watson).
- Broadwater: 15 Yellow-legged & 25 Great Black-backed Gulls in gull roost, also 11 Little Egrets roosting, 2 Kingfisher and 2 Grey Wagtail (Charlotte & Martin Sullivan).
- Parliament Hill Fields: 1 Whinchat (still in fenced area), 6 Mipits, 1 Willow Warbler, immature Kestrel (Michael Mac).
- Kenwood: pair of Bullfinches, Tawny Owls calling 2 areas, several Jackdaw calling, 16 Tufted Duck, 11 Ring-necked Parakeet, 8 Blackbirds in top of a tree. Hampstead Pond No 2: 9 full grown Mute Swan cygnets moved from pond 1 to 2 [1] (Michael Mac).
- Roding Valley: 5 Wigeon, 4 Gadwall, Sparrowhawk, Little Egret, 5 Wigeon, 4 Gadwall, Sparrowhawk, 40 Swallow, 18 Pied Wagtail (ELBF).
- Fairlop: 2 Hobby, 5 Yellow Wagtails, Whinchat, Stonechat (ELBF).
Sunday 20th September
- Rainham RSPB: dark-morph Eleonora's Falcon briefly over (fairly high) before heading east and inland 15:10hrs; seen by 9-10 observers. A first for the London recording area if accepted (see LondonBirdersYahooGroup http://tinyurl.com/n6dzzh ); juvenile Montagu's Harrier flew over at 2:55pm (RBA); first-winter Mediterranean Gull offshore with BH Gulls mid-afternoon, plus a few Yellow-legged Gulls in area (10 observers on London birders' inaugural pelagic).
- London Wetland Centre: Spotted Crake still in reeds on north side of Main Lake from Dulverton Hide this morning (still showing well 13:30hrs), Yellow-browed Warbler behind Wader Scrape Hide briefly at 09:20 then later near WWF Hide (Found by NPS and relocated by Chris Turner -Birdguides); 103 Gadwall, 70 Shoveler, Kestrel, 4 Hobby, Water Rail, Kingfisher, Sand Martin south, 9 migrant Song Thrushes including 2 high south, Nightingale (seen briefly in Wildside from the 'summer route' path - non public access area), 25+ Chiffchaff (including 3 presumed abietinus types), 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Spotted Flycatchers (near bat house on Sheltered Lagoon + Wildside)) (LWC website) in addition to the above, 27 Wigeon, 4 Common Buzzards NW, 99 Swallow ESE, 4 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Whitethroats, 8 Blackcaps, 11 Reed Warblers (NPS). Spotted Crake came out moved 10metres to the left in front of reeds across from Dulverton, below towers on horizon at 4:40pm, 3 Hobby, 6 Wigeon, 4 Snipe etc (Michael Mac); Sp Crake later chased by Moorhens (a recurring conflict)and flew to large Main Lake Island to right of Dulverton Hide where seen earlier in week (per Angus Innes).
- King George VI Res: a dark juvenile Long-tailed Skua sitting on water in south-west corner at 0930, flew to north end before circling back round and crossing south over Staines Res south basin and gaining height until last seen at about 0945 high over Staines town (Andrew Moon, Pete Naylor).
- Regent's Park: Honey-buzzard SSW 13:55hrs, Red Kite over 14:10hrs, Common Buzzard 10.55am, Hobby 10.30am, 400 House Martins, 160 Swallows, 7 Meadow Pipits, Grey Wagtail, 3 cont Song Thrushes, Reed Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, 30 Chiffchaffs, 4 Blackcaps, Jackdaw (Tony Duckett).
- Broadwater: 10 adult, 1 3rd winter and 3 1st winter Yellow-legged Gulls in the gull roost alongside 320 Herring, 120 Lesser Black-backed and 1100 Black-headed Gulls, 8 roosting Little Egrets, 550 roosting Jackdaw, 2 Egyptian Geese and a Snipe (Martin Sullivan).
- Holmethorpe SPs: Dunlin, Cetti's Warbler, Common Redstart, 2 Whinchat (SBC).
- Thames (Putney-Barnes Bridges) WeBS count: 36 Comorant, 19 Heron, 8 Mute Swan, 28 Canada Geese, 465 Mallard, 137 Teal, 6 Gadwall, 25 Tufted Duck ,c1230 Black-headed Gull, 100 Herring Gull, 67 LBB Gull, 11 Great BB, family Grey Wagtail, 9 Jackdaw N (Neil Anderson)
- Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens: Collared Dove (Parade Ground), 32 Swallow (mainly SE), 3 House Martin, 18 Meadow Pipit (mainly south), 17 Pied Wagtail (Parade Ground), 4 Lesser Whitethroat (scrub north of Hyde Park Meadows), Common Whitethroat, 6 Blackcap, 21 Chiffchaff (3 singing), Willow Warbler, Spotted Flycatcher (Long Water Sanctuary East), 2 Jackdaw (initially in trees north of Round Pond but 1 flew SW); also 2 Egyptian Goose, 22 Shoveler, m Ruddy Duck, Little Grebe, 16 Cormorant, imm fem Sparrowhawk, 2 Common Gull, 7 Stock Dove, c30 Ring-necked Parakeet, 6 Goldcrest, 7 Treecreeper, 2 Jay, c75 Carrion Crow; Small White, Speckled Wood (Des McKenzie).

- Amwell: 5 Little Egret, Common Sandpiper, Yellow-legged Gull, 2 Yellow Wagtail over (HertsBirding).

In a quick visit in failing light this evening managed to pick out 3 adult YL Gulls (very possibly more [indeed just seen 5 adults & 1 1st winter reported on Birdguides]) amongst the 2000+ roosting gulls. Also 5 Little Egrets roosting (Martin Sullivan).
