Aftershock (2016) is an upcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by World Incorporated Wrestling. It will take place on September 11, 2016 at the MetraPark in Billings, Montana. It will be the first event in the Aftershock chronology. It will also be the first ShowDown branded event following the second WIW brand extension in July 2016.

Background

Aftershock will feature professional wrestling matches that involved wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines that play out on WIW's primary television programs, ShowDown. Wrestlers will portray heroes or villains as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.

At SummerBash, Mark Semmler defeated Kevin Hunter in the final tournament match to become the inaugural WIW Heavyweight Champion, at the same event Charlie Lynch defeated David Mahrt. On the August 26 2016 episode of ShowDown, Turf Finnegan announced that Lynch as the No.1 contender to the new WIW Heavyweight Championship. Later that evening, Hunter defeated Lynch to be added to title match making the title match a triple threat match at Aftershock.

At the 2016 WIW draft, then-WIW Women's Champion Kaila Matteson was draft to Rage and was renamed the WIW World Women's Championship, leaving ShowDown without a women's championship. On the August 26 episode of ShowDown, the WIW Women's Championship was unveiled by General Manager Turf Finnegan and Commissioner Dixie Finnegan announced a six-pack challenge for the the vacant Women's Championship, announced six fatal four way matches in the next two weeks. The first four fatal four way matches took place that same night, in the fist match saw Katie Mansfield defeated Jamie Carroll, Megan Zanto and Hannah Weiner to advance to the title match as well as a ShowDown contact, the second match saw Beatrice LaGreca defeated Kristen Erickson, Riley Austin and Kelsey Wagner, the third saw Carolyn Kuser defeated Nicole Bergman, Leigh Hicks and Stephanie Claassen and the fourth and final four way of that week saw Brittany Hiatt defeated Megan Zanto, Melissa Warren and Katelyn Whitehead to advance to the event.

Also at the 2016 draft, WIW Tag Team Champions The Doomsday were drafted to Rage, the titles were also renamed the WIW World Tag Team Championship, which also left ShowDown without a tag team championship. On August 26 episode of ShowDown, the WIW Heavyweight Tag Team Championship was unveiled alongside the women's championship. A tournament was then set up to crown the inaugural champions was then set up, with the final match scheduled for Backlash. Originally a 6-team tournament between The PWC, The Bad Boys, Darkness Rising, The American Naturals, The Authority of Wrestling team of (James Masterson and Michael Soto) The Larson Brothers, J&J Knockout Kings and Cam Dana who hadn't been seen in WIW since losing the WIW United Nations Championship to Jax Teller at Broken Bodies, confronted The Finnegan's about being part of the tournament, he was granted the opportunity on the condition the he must find a partner. Later that night, Dana's friend Craig Dalton made his debut for WIW defeated James Masterson, then announcing that he would team with Dana in the tournament. In the quarter-finals, The Larson Brothers and The American Naturals advanced with wins over Darkness Rising and The Bad Boys, respectively. The following week, The PWC and Dana and Dalton advanced with wins over The Authority of Wrestling and J&J Knockout Kings, respectively. On the September 9 episode of ShowDown, The America Naturals and Dana and Dalton advanced with wins over The Larson Brothers and The PWC. Later that night, during a confrontation between America Naturals and Dana and Dalton, Scott Wright and Harlan Storm returned to the promotion under the name Wright of Storm and attacked both teams, American Naturals and Dana and Dalton. During a segment with the final two teams and The Finnegan's about they were attacked again, Dixie Finnegan announced that Wright of Storm would face the final two teams of the tournament also adding but since she was giving Wright of Storm a chance for the titles, she added any two members of The Sons in a Fatal four way elimination tag team match with the winning team advancing to the title match at the event.

On the August 26 episode of ShowDown, Jon Rispens confronted Chris LaGreca calling LeGreca a loser for all his short comings the past few months for the World Title. The following week, Rispens challenged LaGreca to a match at Aftershock, which LaGreca accepted by kicking Rispens in the head. On the September 9 episode of ShowDown, Rispens attacked LaGreca during his scheduled match, resulting in both men being knocked off the set going through tables.

At SummerBash, The Shepards (Fin, Matthew and Claudia) defeated The Sons (Clay, Juice and Gemma) in a Six-man tag team match with the stipulation being that If The Sons had won, the Shepard's will have to become assists to the Sons, but since The Shepards won, they get a shot at the WIW Tag Team Championship at a later date and Fin Shepard gets a shot at the WIW United Nations Championship. The following Friday on ShowDown, Fin revealed he would get his shot at the title at the event. Later that night, United Nations Champion Jax Teller and The Sons confronted Turf Finnegan and went on tirade on how The Finnegan's are treating the Sons like dirt and that Teller was the only top champion on ShowDown. On the September 2 episode of ShowDown, Richard Veach confronted Jax Teller, nearly goading him into a fight after tell him he could remain champion without the Sons. Immediately afterwards on WIW.com, The Finnegan's scheduled a triple threat match for the title at Aftershock. On the September 9 episode of ShowDown, Veach and Shepard defeated Teller and Opie Winston in a tag team match, with Shepard pinning Teller.
