Background
No Escape featured efed wrestling matches that involved different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines that were played out on Concussion—AEW's television programs. Wrestlers portrayed villains or heroes as they followed a series of events that built tension, and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches. All wrestlers are from the AEW Concussion brand—a storyline division in which AEW employees are assigned to a television program of the same name.
AEW Chairman Shane McMahon announced the Elimination Chamber match for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship In the match five challengers would face off with the current AEW Champion, On the March 12, 2012 episode of Concussion three Elimination Chamber qualifying matches were announced as The Rock defeated The Undertaker to qualify for the chamber, Steve Austin defeated Rob Van Dam and Christian to qualify for the chamber, and The Miz defeated Edge to qualify for the chamber. Later that night Randy Orton defeated Taz to become the new AEW World Heavyweight Champion and to force Taz in retirement. On the March 19, 2012 episode of Concussion Alex Shelley defeated Lance Storm to qualify for the chamber and Eric Young defeated Paul London to qualify for the chamber.
The first feud that came in for the No Escape pay-per-view was between Dolph Ziggler and Ric Flair, The feud started to spark last month at the Wrestle War pay-per-view where Ziggler won the Wrestle War for a shot at the AEW World Heavyweight Championship at the June pay-per-view. On the March 5, 2012 Concussion Flair announced that it would be him taking on Ziggler at No Escape inside of a Steel Cage. On the March 12, 2012 episode of Concussion Ziggler would look to have walked out on the AEW but it was only a ploy as Ziggler would announce his return at No Escape to take on Flair in the Steel Cage match.
Another match that was to happen at No Escape was between Velvet Sky and Trish Stratus over the AEW Starlets Championship. Stratus had won a match to become the No. 1 contender to the Starlets Championship and is scheduled to get her shot at the No Escape pay-per-view and for the first time two Starlets would face off in a Steel Cage.
The final feud to be announced was between Team Canada's Petey Williams and Paul London in a first ever Ultimate X Steel Cage match for the AEW Light Heavyweight Championship. The current champion Petey Williams has been the longest reigning Champion in AEW history, so far. Paul London has said that he would end the reign of Petey Williams very soon, At No Escape could be that chance. Petey Williams has defeated Paul London once before, This is not the first time these two have went to war with one another.
