[edit] Background

SummerBash is an annual professional wrestling event traditionally held in August by WIW since 1999. Dubbed "The Biggest Party of the Summer",it is one of the promotion's five biggest events of the year, along with SuperBrawl, World War, Soul Survivor, and Money in the Bank, referred to as the "Big Five". Out of the five, it is considered WIW's second biggest event of the year behind SuperBrawl. Announced on February 7, 2023, the 36th SummerSlam is scheduled to be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Kindrick Field in Helena, Montana, returning SummerBash to its traditional August slot after the previous year was held in July. This also marks WIW's first event to be held at Kindrick Field since the rebranded SuperBrawl IX in April 2007. The event will feature wrestlers from the Rage and ShowkDown brand divisions, and in addition to airing on pay-per-view worldwide.

[edit] Storylines

The event will include matches that result from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by WIW's writers on the Rage and ShowDown brands, while storylines are produced on WIWs weekly television shows, Wednesday Night Rage| and Saturday Night ShowDown, however when the PPVs are on Saturday's, ShowDown is moved to Fridays.

On the Rage after SuperBrawl XV, Tyler Mane viciously attacked Ryan Barnhart before both were set to participate in a tag team match. This resulted in a tag team match at Retaliation with Barnhart teamed up with Kevin McAlmond and Mane teamed up with Undisputed WIW World Heavyweight Champion and Martin McAlmond, who was in their own feud at the time. Barnhart and McAlmond won the match. A singles rematch occurred at Night of Champions, which Mane won by way of making Barnhart pass out to the Lock submission. On the following episode of Rage with them being tied 1–1 (with the tag team match and singles match) and the fact Semmler did not give up, Semmler issued an open challenge to Mane for anytime, anywhere. Mane returned on the July 5 episode, where he brawled with Semmler. The following week, Semmler challenged Mane to a third match at SummerBash. After viciously attacking Semmler on the next episode, Mane accepted the challenge.

At Money in the Bank, Kevin McAlmond successfully defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Chris Gomez and Kenny Alsup in a Triple threat match after Gomez's The Pinnacle of Judgment stablemate, Jeremiah Lawrence, who had won the men's Money in the Bank ladder match earlier that night, accidentally distracted him. On the following episode of Rage, in a match between Kevin McAlmond and Pinnacle of Judgment's Miro Munoz, Lawrence interfered, with Kevin winning the match by disqualification. Lawrence then attempted to cash in his Money in the Bank contract, but Gomez appeared and attacked Gomez, costing Lawrence his opportunity, which caused some disagreement between Gomez and Lawrence. The following week, arguments between Gomez and Lawrence continued, but later, they both agreed that Gomez should receive a title match first. Later that episode, Pinnacle of Judgment defeated McAlmond and Unified WIW World Tag Team Champions Tyler Posey and Tyler Hoechlin in a Six-man tag team match when Heavenlee Mcguire brought Justin Isaac who ended up turning on McAlmond and sending him through the announcers table. On the July 19 episode, Gomez challenged Kevin McAlmond to a rightful singles match for the championship, but Alsup interrupted him, telling him that he wasn't done with the champion yet either, Kevin McAlmond interrupted both stating they could all settle their differences that night without the title. As Kevin McAlmond was about to leave, he was viciously attacked by Gomez and Alsup and then as he was about to leave, McAlmond was assulted by Isaac in the parking lot and a brawl ensued between all four men. Later, a Fatal four way elimination match between the four for the World Heavyweight Championship was scheduled for SummerBash, it was also announced that this match would be one of the SummerBash on the PPV.
