WIW New Years Evil is a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by WIW for their Rage and ShowDown brand divisions. It is scheduled to take place on January 1, 2022, at the Montana Sports Arena in Butte, Montana. It will be the company's first pay-per-view event to take place on New Year's Day. The event's title alludes to its New Year's scheduling and is the first PPV to have the New Year's theme since New Year's Bash in 2007 and New Year's Evil in 2011 (which was renamed World War in 2012). The scheduling of New Years Evil caused the cancelation of WIW's previously annual event, TLC: Christmas Horror Feast.

[edit] Background
On July 23, 2021, the American professional wrestling promotion WIW announced that it would be holding a pay-per-view (PPV) event on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at the Montana Sports Arena in Butte, Montana, which would feature wrestlers from the Rage and ShowDown brands. On August 24, 2021, it was revealed that the event was titled New Years Evil due to it taking place on New Year's Day. This marks WIW's first PPV event to take place on New Year's. Tickets went on sale on August 27, 2021. The company previously ran an event called New Years Bash from 2005 to 2007 and New Years Evil from 1999 to 2011, before renaming the event World war, but they were held shortly after New Year's Day or in late January.
The scheduling of New Years Evil caused WIW to cancel their annual TLC: Christmas Horror Feast event (while also announcing TLC would return in 2022), which had been scheduled for December 19, 2021. Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer reported that TLC was canceled to allow WIW to focus on New Years Evil after November's Soul Survivor. There would have also only been two weeks between TLC and New Years Evil, followed by the World War in late January.
[edit] Storylines
The event will include matches that result from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by WIW's writers on the Rage and ShowDown brands, while storylines are produced on WIW's weekly television shows, Wednesday Night Rage and Saturday Night ShowDown.
On the October 27 episode of Rage, Kevin McAlmond won a Doomsday Cage Ladder match to become the number one contender for the WIW World Championship, while also retain his Money in the Bank contract. On the December 1 episode, it was announced that McAlmond would receive his title match against WIW World Champion Marc Beltran at Rage's portion of New Years Evil. That same night, however, WIW officials Joe Spieker and Dixie Finnegan set up a non-title match between Marc Beltran and Daniel Mazurek as well as a singles match between Justin Eldridge and McAlmond, who both had also competed in the ladder match, where if Mazurek and Burdick won their matches, they'd would be added to the title match. Later, Burdick defeated Kevin McAlmond by countout after Eric Stevens'The Hurt Mafia teammates Gleason and Tobol attacked McAlmond while the referee was distracted and was added to the championship match, making it a triple threat match. During the main event match, Mazurek would purvoke Burdick causing him to interfered, thus Mazurek won by disqualification and was added to the championship match, making it a fatal four way match. The following week, after Marc Beltran had defeated Mazurek in a Steel cage match with McAlmond and Eldridge on commentary, Eric Stevens, Daniel Gonzalez, Gleason and Tobol came out and viciously attacked the three. On the next episode, Stevens, who Marc Beltran had defeated for the title in September, explained his actions and demanded to be in the championship match at New Years Evil; however, Mazurek and Eldridge took exception while Beltran and McAlmond stated that it did not matter how many was in the match they would be the ones walking out as champion after New Years Evil. Spieker and Finnegan then came out and scheduled Stevens to face Mazurek, Burdicks, McAlmond, and Marc Beltean, respectively, where if he won one match, he would take that persons spot in the the championship match, in addition, if he was to beat two or more, the match would become a triple threat or a regular singles match. Stevens was defeated by McAlmond by pinfall, Mazurek by countout and Beltran by pinfall, but was successful in defeated Eldridge and to Eldridge's spot in the WIW World Championship match at New Years, keeping it a fatal four way match.
