[edit] Background
Broken Bodies is an annual gimmick event produced by WIW since 2009. The concept of the show is that the event features various matches that are contested under hardcore rules and generally features one Broken Bodies match. The defunct Extreme Championship Wrestling Federation promotion, which WIW acquired in 2003, originally used the "extreme rules" term to describe the regulations for all of its matches; WIW adopted the term and has since used it in place of "hardcore match" or "hardcore rules." On October 25, 2021, WIW revealed its 2022 major event schedule for the Rage and ShowDown brands, with a to be announced event for October. On June 13, 2022, that October event was announced as Extreme Rules and it would take place on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Hagan Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, marking the first Broken Bodies to be held in October and on a Saturday. It will be the 14th event in the Broken Bodies chronology and will air on pay-per-view (PPV) worldwide
[edit] Storylines
The event will include matches that result from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by WIW's writers on the Rage and ShowDown brands, while storylines are produced on WIW's weekly television shows, Wednesday Night Rage and Saturday Night ShowDown (however when WIW runs there pay-per-views on Saturday's, they shift ShowDown to Friday).
