IWE Studios is a Los Angeles-based subsidiary of IWE, Inc., created in 2002 as IWF Films (until the initial change in May 2002) to develop and produce feature film properties.
+
IWE Studios (formerly known as IWE Films) is a Los Angeles-based subsidiary of IWE which was created in 2002 as to develop and produce feature film properties for its wrestlers and personnel. IWE Studios movies frequently mix well-known actors and actresses in lead roles with IWE wrestlers, and teams with existing production and distribution companies to deliver the product at a cheaper cost for both parties.
History
History
-
As of 2011, IWE Studios has co-produced four films as well as independently produced six more.  The Marine was the first developed solely by the company to reach the filming stage, while the first one to be theatrically released is See No Evil. Stone Cold Steve Johnson is signed to star in three movies for IWE Studios. Before the formation of IWE Films the IWF had produced the 1989 film No Holds Barred featuring Hulk Hogan.
+
Before the formation of IWE Studios, the IWF had produced the 1989 film No Holds Barred featuring Hulk Hogan under the Shane Distribution Company banner, a precursor to today's company. The film was given a DVD release in 2012.
-
In 2006, IWE Films chose to further expand the variety of projects that it intends to pursue by also focusing made-for-television films and direct-to-video movies as well as other media platforms. IWE Films was renamed IWE Studios on July 21, 2008 to further represent the expansion of the IWE subsidiary.
+
IWE Studios was formed in 2002 as IWE Films, and was seen as "a natural extension of the entertainment business" that they already featured in the weekly Raw and SmackDown television programs. Joel Simon was named as President of the IWE Films and Jed Blaugrund as Vice President. The name was changed to IWE Studios in 2008.
-
Due to the IWE's adherence to the TV-PG rating, all future movies were subsequently switched from rated R to PG-13 in order to target a younger audience. Only three of the films produced by IWE Studios have surpassed the PG-13 rating; The Condemned, See No Evil and The Marine 2, each rated R. Former IWE Studios president Joel Simon died on June 19, 2011 after a four year battle with cancer.
+
IWE announced the first three film projects in January 2005; The Condemned, starring Steve Austin, The Marine, starring Dustin Simpson, and Goodnight, later retitled as See No Evil, starring Kane.

[edit] History

Before the formation of IWE Studios, the IWF had produced the 1989 film No Holds Barred featuring Hulk Hogan under the Shane Distribution Company banner, a precursor to today's company. The film was given a DVD release in 2012.

IWE announced the first three film projects in January 2005; The Condemned, starring Steve Austin, The Marine, starring Dustin Simpson, and Goodnight, later retitled as See No Evil, starring Kane.
