Background

SummerBash is an annual professional wrestling event traditionally held in August by WIW since 1999. Dubbed "The Biggest Party of the Summer" as well as "The Biggest Bash of the Summer", it is one of the promotion's five biggest events of the year, along with SuperBrawl, World War, Soul Survivor, and Money in the Bank, referred to as the "Big Five". Out of the five, it is considered WIW's second biggest event of the year behind SuperBrawl.

Storylines

The card will include matches that result from scripted storylines. Results are predetermined by WIW's writers on the Rage and ShowDown brands, while storylines are produced on WIW's weekly television programs, Wednesday Night Rage and Friday Night ShowDown, which moves to Friday when WIW runs a pay-per-view on Saturday.

During an appearance at the WIW Experience attraction in Helena, Montana, WIW Chief Content Officer Rex Martin announced that the winners of both the King of the Ring and WIW Queen of the Ring tournaments would receive a match for the world championship of their respective brand at SummerBash. At Royalty of the Ring, Rage's Clay Bignell and ShowDown's Renae Geerlings won the respective tournaments, thus earning matches for the World Heavyweight Championship and WIW Women's Championship, respectively. However the next day, Rex Martin announced via WIW's social media that, due to the outcome of Bignell's match that the winner of a triple threat match at Clash in the Bronx: Draddy would also be eligable to choose to join the match or request a singles match at a later date, Lawrence choose to have his title match at SummerBash.
