[edit] Background
On October 25, 2023, the American professional wrestling promotion WIW announced that it would hold its first-ever pay-per-view (PPV) event in Germany called Brawl in Berlin. The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin, Germany and will feature wrestlers from the promotion's Rage and ShowDown brand divisions. The event will air on traditional iPPV in most markets. It was also announced that the August 30 episode of Friday Night ShowDown (which would orginially take place on Saturday) would air live from the same venue, which will be the first time for the program to broadcast from Germany. Tickets went on sale on November 30, 2023.
[edit] Storylines
The card will include matches that result from scripted storylines. Results are predetermined by WIW's writers on the Rage and ShowDown brands, while storylines are produced on WIW's weekly television programs, Wedensday Night Rage and Friday Night ShowDown (which always moves to Fridays during PPVs).
At Royalty of the Ring in May, Rage's Clay Bignell defeated ShowDown's James Burdick in the final of the King of the Ring tournament, which earned him a match for Rage's World Heavyweight Championship at SummerBash in August. During the King of the Ring final, however, Burdick's shoulder was not fully on the mat when the referee counted the pin. After the show, WIW Chief Content Officer Rex Martin noted the mistake and said the referee's decision was final but that there would likely be a rematch between the two. At SummerBash, Bignell failed to win the World Heavyweight Championship after interferences from Chris Gomez, who ended up costing Jeremiah Lawrence the title, while venting his frustration on the following Rage he was given a chance to win another shot at the title, until he was interrupted by Burdick, who noted that because of that mistake in the King of the Ring final, that ultimately allowed Bignell to become champion, but he failed. He then said that he wanted his rematch at Brawl in Berlin because he wanted to be the one to take the shot at the World Heavyweight Championship from Bignell, who accepted the challenge. It was later stipulated that if Burdick beats Bignell and than wins the championship, he would be transferred to Rage with Bignell transferred to ShowDown.
At SummerBash, Ryan Barnhart retained the Unified WIW World Championship against Dylan McAlmond in a McBloodline Rules, which included aid from Tyler Posey in fending off other members of The McBloodline (Dylan McAlmond, Brandin McAlmond and Brad McAlmond). On the following episode of ShowDown, as Barnhart was about to say who he wanted to defend the title against at Bash in Berlin, he was interrupted by The McBloodline (Dylan, Bradin and Brad), as Dylan wanted a rematch. Posey declined, stating that Dylan did not deserve it, and as The McBloodline were about to enter the ring and attack Barnhart, Posey again came to his aid. After The McBloodline retreated, Barnhart said that due to all the times Posey had helped Barnhart in fending off The McBloodline, he felt that Posey deserved an opportunity and wanted to defend the title against Posey, who felt that he had not earned it due to his win/loss record. Barnhart then left to go talk to ShowDown General Manager to have the match approved, and despite Posey's objection, the match was made official
At SummerBash, Sarah Grobel defeated Jennipher Harper to retain the Women's World Championship after seemingly accidental interference from Harper's on-screen love interest and Pinnacle of Judgment stablemate Miro Munoz. After the match, however, Munoz betrayed Harper aligning with Grobel ending their partnership. Later that night, fellow Pinnacle of Judgment member Jeremiah Lawrence lost the World Heavyweight Championship triple threat match after being betrayed by fellow stablemate Chris Gomez. On the following episode of Rage, Gomez excommunicated Lawrence and Harper from the group and seemingly added Grobel to the group, however ended up turning on her as well and associated themselves with Lehr Wrestling Alliance, Munoz aligning with Brooke Slevin instead. Later that night, Lawrence and World Heavyweight Champion Kevin McAlmond was attacked during a tag team match with Pinnacle of Judgment member Casey Lee and Eric Stevens before Grobel and Harper made the save. McAlmond challenged the group to a 10-person tag team match at Brawl in Berlin announced that he would team with Harper or Grobel and members of the debuting The Olympians U. One week later, a Ten-person Brawl in Berlin match between the two groups were made official for Brawl in Berlin. On the August 20 morning episode of MWA TV, Stevens and Lehr challenged McAlmond and Grobel to put their titles on the line in te match. Later that morning, McAlmond and Grobel via video accepted the challenge and took the challenge one step more wanting the new Pinnacle of Judgment to put their titles on the line as well. Later that day WIW made it offical that the match would be for the WIW's World Heavyweight Championship and Women's World Championship as well as MWA's MWA World Championship and MWA Women's Championship, while also announcing that if any champion gets pinned they lose there respective championship to the one that made the pinfall. However on the August 21 episode of Rage, Pinnacle of Judgment attacked McAlmond, Grobel, Harper and Caeleb Dressel and Ryan Murphy, which injured Murphy, Lawrence was then revealed to replace Murphy in the match.
