It will take place on September 11, 2016 at the MetraPark in Billings, Montana. It will be the first event in the Aftershock chronology. Aftershock will feature professional wrestling matches that involved wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines that play out on WIW's primary television programs, ShowDown. Wrestlers will portray heroes or villains as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.
At SummerBash, Mark Semmler defeated Kevin Hunter in the final tournament match to become the inaugural WIW Heavyweight Champion, at the same event Charlie Lynch defeated David Mahrt. On the August 26 2016 episode of ShowDown, Turf Finnegan announced that Lynch as the No.1 contender to the new WIW Heavyweight Championship. Later that evening, Hunter defeated Lynch to be added to title match making the title match a triple threat match at Aftershock.

At SummerBash, The Shepards (Fin, Matthew and Claudia) defeated The Sons (Clay, Juice and Gemma) in a Six-man tag team match with the stipulation being that If The Sons had won, the Shepard's will have to become assists to the Sons, but since The Shepards won, they get a shot at the WIW Tag Team Championship at a later date and Fin Shepard gets a shot at the WIW United Nations Championship. The following Friday on ShowDown, Fin revealed he would get his shot at the title at the event. Later that night, United Nations Champion Jax Teller and The Sons confronted Turf Finnegan and went on tirade on how The Finnegan's are treating the Sons like dirt and that Teller was the only top champion on ShowDown. On the September 2 episode of ShowDown, Richard Veach confronted Jax Teller, nearly goading him into a fight after tell him he could remain champion without the Sons. Immediately afterwards on WIW.com, The Finnegan's scheduled a triple threat match for the title at Aftershock. On the September 9 episode of ShowDown, Veach and Shepard defeated Teller and Opie Winston in a tag team match, with Shepard pinning Teller.
