Background

SuperBrawl is considered WIW's flagship live event, having first been held in 1999. It is the longest-running annual professional wrestling event in history and is held between mid-March to mid-April. It was the first of WIW's original four pay-per-views (PPVs), including World War, SummerBash, and Soul Survivor, which were originally dubbed the "Big Four", and as of October 2021, it is one of the company's five biggest events of the year along with Money in the Bank, referred to as the "Big Five". SuperBrawl is ranked the sixth most valuable sports brand in the world and has been described as the Super Bowl of sports entertainment. SuperBrawl XIV will feature wrestlers from the promotion's Rage and ShowDown brand divisions. In addition to airing on traditional PPV, it will air on the WIW Network.

Storylines

The event will include an unknown number of matches that each result from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by WIW's writers on the Rage and ShowDown brands, while storylines are produced on WIW's weekly television shows, Wednesday Night Rage and Saturday (or Friday) Night ShowDown.

After Martin McAlmond retained the WIW Heavyweight Championship at the 2021 SummerBash, Tyler Mane confronted Martin, also implying that Monte McAlmond had secretly been working with him as his advocate. Two months later at All Hail, Martin McAlmond defeated Mane to retain the Heavyweight Championship with help from The McAlmonds (TJ McAlmond and Brad McAlmond). A rematch was scheduled for the New Year's event New Years Evil, and fired Monte McAlmond as he believed Monte was working with Mane behind his back. The New Years Evil match, however, was canceled as Martin McAlmond was unable to make due to unforseen circumstances. Due to his status as a free agent, Mane was instead added to Rage's multi-person WIW World Championship match at New Years Evil and won the title. On the following ShowDown, Mane, who aligned with Monte due to what Martin did to him, challenged Martin to a champion vs. champion match, but Martin declinded. At the World War, Mane lost his WIW World Championship after interference from Martin and a double cross from Monte, who realigned with Martin. Later that night, Mane entered the World War Rumble match and won to earn himself a world championship match of his choice at SuperBrawl XIV. On the following episode of Rage, Mane announced that he would challenge Martin McAlmond for the Heavyweight Championship. Still wanting it to be a champion vs. champion match, and also wanted a rematch for losing his title, Mane was also added to the WIW World Championship Elimination Chamber match at Steele Roulette, new WIW World Champion Kevin McAlmond confronted Mane and said he felt it was a good idea that the SuperBrawl main even "should be" for both titles and said that when he retained the title he was going to join the Heavyweight Championship match at SuperBrawl XIV, on the final ShowDown before Steel Roulette, Kevin McAlmond confronted his brother and Monte McAlmond, who tried to get Kevin to pull out of the title match at SuperBrawl, but Kevin wouldn't and a brawl insued.

At the World War, Sis Bates, made a suprise return to the main event scene and won the women's World War Rumble match to earn a women's championship match of her choice at SuperBrawl XIV. After pondering her choices due to having heated history with both reigning champions, on the following episode of ShowDown, Bates announced that she would challenge Kaila Matteson for the ShowDown Heavyweight Women's Championship.

At SummerBash in August 2021, Ali Richards was added to the Willa Holland and Sari Pasma match for the WIW Heavyweight Women's Championship and pinned Pasma to win the title. Over the course of the next month, Richards would continue to retain the championship against Holland using underhanded tactics before both were drafted to Rage in the 2021 WIW Draft; Richards and Rage World Women's Champion Kaila Matteson, who was drafted to ShowDown, traded their championships to keep the titles on their respective brands, thus Richards became the World Women's Champion. After failing to earn a title match at the 2022 World War and failing to win the women's World War Rumble match, Holland won the women's Elimination Chamber match at Steel Roulette to finally earn a one-on-one match against Richards for the World Women's Championship at SuperBrawl XIV. This in turn scheduled the only two women to win in the main event of SuperBrawl against each other (Richards at SuperBrawl XI and Holland at SuperBrawl XIII Night 1, respectively).

On the February 2 episode of Rage, Kody Baker defeated Miro Munoz. The following week, Miro and his father Richard Munoz were guests on "BakerTV". Richard claimed that Baker cheated to defeat Miro while Baker took issue that Richard had an opportunity to qualify for the WIW World Championship Elimination Chamber match while he did not and also that Richard was the cover star of the WIW: The Game Baker also questioned if Richard was truly Miro's father. Miro then defeated Baker in a rematch. Richard then defeated Baker during the Steel Roulette Kickoff pre-show. Later backstage, Baker accused Richard of cheating due to Miro and said he would find a tag team partner who was a "global superstar". On the following episode of Rage, as Baker teased the identity of his partner to face Richard and Miro SuperBrawl XIV, the Munoz's interrupted, stating it did not matter who Baker had chosen. Baker then revealed his partner as actor and singer personality Chris Colfer, after which, Baker and Colfer attacked the Munoz's.

On the February 23 episode of Rage, James Burdick made his first post-World War appearance where he issued an open challenge for SuperBrawl XIV. The following week, Burdick came out to see who would answer his challenge, which was accepted by Kevin Hunter. Burdick then stated he was glad Hunter accepted as it was a match he had been wanting; however, he wanted the real Kevin Hunter and not the one who had been Michael Phelps' tag team partner for the past year. Burdick then seemingly turned heel and attacked Hunter, after which, a conflicted Hunter performed two con-chair-tos on Hunter.
