Broken Bodies will feature professional wrestling matches that involved wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines that play out on WIW's primary television programs, Rage and ShowDown. Wrestlers will portray heroes or villains as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.

At Retaliation, Kevin McAlmond defeated Kevin Hunter to retain the WIW World Heavyweight Championship. On the following Rage, Daniel Mazurek invoked his rematch for the WIW World Heavyweight Championship at Broken Bodies, but McAlmond declined, later that night KJ Styles defeated Mazurek to become No.1 contender, Mazurek would then interferer in a match between McAlmond and Matt Borske Mazurek and the rest of Borske's faction The Authority of Wrestling attacked and assaulted friends that McAlmond invited to watch the event for the night, McAlmond would win the match by disqualification when Mazurek attacked McAlmond as well, putting him through the announcers table. On the May 10 episode of Rage, McAlmond attacked Mazurek backstage, accepting Mazurek's rematch setting up a Triple threat for the title. On the May 13 episode of ShowDown, it was announced that McAlmond, Mazurek and Styles brawled through the arena, before being escorted out by security, it was announced later in the week that, Rex Martin added that the match would be held under Extreme Rules match for the WIW World Heavyweight Championship at Broken Bodies.

At Retaliation, Ryan Barnhart defeated Travis Tipton, during the title match between Simpson and Mazurek, Barnhart and Tipton brawled down the ramp, and at the ropes, Mazurek tried to throw them, but Simpson pinned him to retain the title. After the match, the four continued to the brawl in the ring with Tipton standing tall at the end holding the International Championship. The next Tuesday on Rage, another #1 contender match between Tipton and Barnhart occurred, but the match ended in a no contest after Mazurek, who was on commentary, attacked Barnhart. On the May 7 episode of ShowDown, Simpson interrupted Mazurek on "the talk show" hosted by WIW World Heavyweight Champion Kevin McAlmond and a match was booked later between the two, which Simpson won by disqualification after Mazurek interfered.
