Fuggetlen forint
From Ipon
The Független forint or Independent forint is the official currency of Liberty Islands. Its ISO code is LIF.
[edit] Past and present
The independent forint is in use since the 1848-49 Revolution and Independence War when the Hungarian cabinet intoduced a new banknote, the Magyar forint (Hungarian Forint), popularly also known as Kossuth banknote to stabilize the Hungarian finance. After the collapse of mainland Hungary, and the loss of the war, Liberty Islands remained independent and kept the Kossuth banknote, renamed it the Indepedent Hungarian Forint.
Shortly after the lost independence war, the government tied the currency to the actual customs, trade and harbour usage fees, by this it become one of the first currencies which were not tied anymore to the gold rates. Slowly the LIF started to climb between exchange rates. At the time of the Great Depression, it was hit by inflation. The forint regained its strongness after the Second World War.
Today it is a strong currency but not widely used in business and finance. The Liberty Fund is known as the largest holder of Independent forints. The Liberty Fund's and the government's stocks make the Independent forint a stable money.
Despite of the proximity of the USA and the EU, the national finance administration is not planning to introduce the US Dollar or the Euro. This is supported by most of the people too. The Forint is a symbol of national independence.
