Potential Responses and Actions
From Ibmukpensions
1. Use the "Confidentially Speaking" process to raise the issues with Senior UK and US Executives.
2. Join Unite union - we need 'a majority' of IBM UK employees to sign up in order for IBM to be required to recognise Unite. Since this issue is related to your employment contract, you can ask a Unite representative to accompany you at a grievance hearing with IBM at which you express dissatisfaction with the change in your employment contract relating to the pension. You do not need to have union recognition by IBM for this. See [1]TUC rights at work.
3. Complain to your line manager and HR - send it up the line. That's the IBM way. It may be ineffective but do it.
4. Keep the press informed, The Register, IBM Alliance in the US, etc.
The BBC South Today reporter Richard Sturt can be contacted on 07841004387, or email: richardsturt@btinternet.com, or chrissy.sturt@bbc.co.uk
The News Portsmouth is preparing an article on the IBM pensions changes. They would like to speak anonymously with a current IBM Employee. If willing then contact: adam.kula@thenews.co.uk Direct line: 023 92 622114 M: 07731506313.
5. Share documents where possible if not breaking BCG. For example the IBM Pension and Life Assurance Plans Handbook, meeting minutes, agreements from the 2006 changes, IBM handbook and current employment contract.
6. Appoint a chairman, secretary, and start organising.
7. Hold a meeting outside of IBM to explore responses to the company and other additional actions.
8. Nominate and elect experienced senior people onto the PCC. 8a) Be an active part of the consultation process and support the PCC elected members.
9. Identify any grounds for a legal challenge by consulting a lawyer - do we need a pot of money for this?
10. Ensure the consultation is overwhelmed so that it fails or does not complete creating the possibility of a legal challenge.
11. Write to your MP.
