Star Seeker

From Flight From Darkness

Star Seeker is a young member of The Fivescore Fellowship and Navigator of the Dream of Sweet Rain.

Appearance

Star's bleached white hair and bronze skin have faded some since her arrival, but they and her steel grey eyes (which have slowly grown yellow, and these days look like they have stars in them) still mark her as clearly foreign, in a craft dominated by those of the East and North. She is of slightly above-average height, with a small but definite bust. Her frame is as athletic as most Exalts', and her eyes show the spark of a well-honed mind. She arrived shortly after her 15th birthday, and is now 18 - but looks older, which she attributes to stress from her duty.

Her clothes change to suit the mood (as if she has an infinite resplendence amulet), but usually show her Skullstone heritage: black leather with white highlights, favoring practicality and often minimalistic, but not enough to be immodest. (Come within 10 feet with a frilly bright pink dress you want her to wear, and watch her squirm.) When she is "on duty" - giving briefings, delivering official requests, and so on - she instead wears her officer uniform: light gray fabric, faintly shimmering in the Maidens' colors (red/yellow/green/blue/purple) in the manner of starmetal, with a mix of generic but official cuts that anyone can recognize as similar to their home culture's officers. In combat, she breaks out a reinforced breastplate with scale mail sleeves, gauntlets, legs, boots, and hood, tailored to not impede her movement; like her uniform, this is starmetal-colored but not actually starmetal.

Her preferred weapon is her Wrackvajra: a starmetal pole, pointed on one side and blunt on the other, intricately engraved, enchanted to return to her hand if thrown. (It even has a hearthstone socket - empty, of course.) It is usually collapsed to baton-size and concealed when no danger is imminent.

Personality

Star is bright but a bit erratic, to the point that "genius ditz" is an accurate label. She understands well her duty, but the weight of it has stressed her. So, too, has the training to get her skills up to Sidereal standards - but she has buckled down and studied, some aspects more than others. However, one thing she does resist is Arcane Fate, parading around without a Resplendent Destiny more often than with, forming close acquaintances with some of those who remember most of their time with her. Star has yet to fully get over the massacre she witnessed while escaping her homeland; that she is - so far as she knows - the only survivor of Skullstone has not helped.

History

It is known to The Fivescore Fellowship that Acara was specifically dispatched to retrieve Star from the Skullstone Archipelago, that an Infernal task force learned of Star Seeker's imminent import - if not her exact identity - and arrived at the same time as Acara, that Star consequently witnessed the macabre destruction of the surrounding town while fleeing, and that the two of them spent a month dodging the task force, before finally losing them around the time Star Exalted. (The exact details will not be recorded here, but they involved outracing cannon shells being fired at her, in a last minute fashion typical of Exaltations.)

It is also known that there was an important reason, beyond just securing another Sidereal, that Star specifically was needed. Any attempt to record this reason in the Archives has met with a string of errors, malfunctions, and interruptions, and it is this writer's opinion that those are a clear message about the confidentiality level of her mission. If you need to know why we put up with her, you already do.
