[edit] Personnel File: Silken Owl

Silken Owl is a former guildswoman from Nexus, and the founder and Chief of the Runner's Guild. of Sweet Rain]]. She is 63 years of age, and possesses Bridge-Level Security Clearance.

[edit] Description:

Silken Owl is in her early sixties, but she has the body of a thirty-year old: she was a merchant princess in Creation, able to afford expensive anagathic medicines. She is lean and physically fit (she practices a severe daily exercise regimen). She is also blind, and carries a cane whose distinctive metallic tapping against the metal of the Dream's floors presages her presence. Despite her handicap, she is a highly perceptive individual, and has been known to personally incapacitate would-be assassins. See attached recordings.

[edit] Personality:

Silken Owl has been examined and deemed psychologically fit for duty by the Chief Medical Officer. Notable personality traits include homosexuality, tremendous personal ambition, greed, and a fervent belief that it is always better to produce something of quality than an easy and cheap knockoff. Owl is a manipulative schemer, but she is also an honest businesswoman, and she never buys or sells anything unless she's certain it's the best on the market. She has been known to take unscrupulous methods to increase production costs for her competitors if they start trying to cut into her monopolies.

Owl enjoys pretending to be less than she is: she's a spider at the center of her web, but she styles herself as a friendly (if occasionally nagging) old grandmother, blind and out-of-touch. Even when acting the kindly old lady, though, she has a penchant for cutting and incisive honesty.

[edit] Security Analysis:

Silken Owl was a merchant princess of Nexus, and she knows of the Sidereals: she traded with Heaven through the Celestial Gate in her home city back in Creation, and it was partly through her contacts with us that she made her way aboard. She knows we run the place, and she knows generally who we are. Her Runner's Guild operates with our permission, but she is extremely stubborn about refusing to divulge the messages she carries even to our agents. Laughing Ragamoffin and Hidden Gleam support her creation of a means of transmitting information across the ship which we can't oversee, and she also has the support of Luxana, who approves of the use of written communiques rather than the verbal messaging system offered by the ship's AI. Owl's goal is profit and the creation of a system which will give a useful trade and a useful purpose to an otherwise dangerous segment of the population. If she wasn't "destined to deliver an extremely valuable secret to the last defenders of virtue in a time of peril," we might take moves against her organization. As it is...we can afford to be patient. It's not like we can't figure out what's in those messenger-tubes through indirect means, if we really want to.

[edit] Notable Relationships:

  • Incorruptible Silver Fang: Mischievous affection. The lion-dog plays Gateway with the Guildswoman regularly. They are close friends.
  • Hidden Gleam: Political Alliance. Silken Owl has had prayers to the fire-dragon etched into her messenger tubes.
  • Sweet Pearl: Political Alliance. There is no Heirarch's Council here...but these two women are looking to start one.
  • Twelve Blades Orchid: Admiration. The old Lunar likes her and takes subtle moves to air her Runners.
  • Perfected Amber Hound: Condescending disrespect, ever since she beat him up when he followed her down an alley, thinking him a mugger.
  • Maheka Vinh: Political Alliance. The Guildsman and the Chumyo have tea once a week. The Last Legion enjoys the services offered by her Guild.

[edit] Notable Skills:

  • Extremely talented businesswoman.
  • Extremely talented manager and leader of people.
  • Skilled player of intrigues.
  • Master of Blind Owl Style
