Wikipedia, an open knowledge base project, is one of the most popular sites on the net. It has garnered both praise and criticism, both in considerable amounts. It is operated by Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. ("WMF"), which also operates a large number of related projects. Here, we will call them all "Wikipedia" or "WP", for short.
As a reader, you may find much useful content on WP. You should take it with a grain of salt, though; WP is free but not reliable. Consider it a starting point only for further research.
As a potential contributor, you should be aware that in the absence of formal structure, an informal mass of interlocking cabals and cliques tend to subject new editors to astonishingly rude treatment.
Eagle House Toolbox is not associated with WP in any way. Since WP offers much fine, free content, we take some of it for use here. We link to WP articles and other pages for the benefit of those who wish to learn more.
MediaWiki is the name of the wiki software engine that drives both WP and Eagle House Toolbox; like WP content, it is freely licensed under GFDL. But Eagle House Toolbox is hosted by EditThis.info, which is wholly unrelated to WMF.
Eagle House Toolbox is not Wikipedia
Yes, we already said that. Let's say it again: Eagle House Toolbox is not Wikipedia. We share certain superficial characteristics and, like all wikis, we are connected at an extremely primitive level.
Like WP, anyone can edit Eagle House Toolbox; unlike WP, we require that you first create an account and log in. Like WP, we encourage anyone to comment on what they see here; unlike WP, we will simply not tolerate troublemakers. This is not a free speech zone.
Finally, unlike WP, our mission is extremely narrow. We do not accept a wide variety of material and submissions falling outside of our Guidelines will be deleted.
