The snow covered landscape is evidence that global warming isn’t doing its job right. The streets are filled with white snow making travel difficult. Its pitch black outside but the street lights reveal some lonely figures defying the wretched cold. They move from one street light to the other, momentarily disappearing in the blackness between the light only to reaper once again under the next street light.
You turn your head hoping to find a clock. On the drawer a digital clock reads 03.00. The long rest has done your body good, although you can still feel the cold affecting you.
Suddenly a heavy hand knocks on the door in an structured, even tone. Normally the mere knocking on a door would not frighten you so but now it brings back the memories of the horrid beast in the house you woke up in the other day. You can vividly remember his nightmarish form, the beast whose kin is not from this earth. When you have seen something so unearthly like the monster your mind can interpret the most ordinary of acts as an potential threat. Your body stiffens up in fear, but it also gets ready to fight for its life. Maybe what your body is telling you is correct, maybe the knocker is another demon here to take your soul?
Whoever is beyond that door knocks again in the same structured tone, you are forced to make a decision.
