You open the window but not before retrieving the black book. It helped you before and may do so again. You climb out the window and drop into a conveniently placed snow heap. You land softly but get snow all over your feet. With some difficulty you manage to get down from the small mountain of snow and emerge under a street light.
You wrap your hands around yourself to combat the cold. Two figures can be seen across the driveway. They also stand under their own street lights, resting their backs against them. You cannot make out any distinct features because they wear winter clothing covering every inch of their head except their eyes. Then you realize, the eyes are starring at you. Not normally like you would expect but with a soulless hunger that could only exist in a monster. They have big eyes with big pupils that spy down your weary soul. An hateful force accomplishes them every second and because their attention is at you then you have to take the blunt of it. These monsters stare makes your legs wobble, you should have stayed inside.
“Do I fear the dark?” You ask yourself. “Alone in the dark with unknown things near, do I fear them?” You grab the black book as if looking for comfort. Your words are filled with none of the fear that now grips you. It’s almost like there is someone else doing the talking for you. “Do I fear this? Do I fear the dark road?!”
The words that come from your mouth but are not of your own fill you with the will for action.
Run straight over the driveway to the two figures in the distance
