The Confederate Nations of the Martian Republic is the future, autocratic global government in the Last Days of Belldandy.

Background

One day, after two millennia of prophesy that calls for religion to come to an end (Belldandyism), the cosmic Rupture occurs, effectively causing millions of people to disintegrate from the face of the Earth, sending the world into mass suicide. These events happen a week later, after the newly elected Martian General Assembly starts session. On the same day of the Rupture, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan resigns and 23-year-old American politician Josh Taylor Stingray is virtually immediately elected to the open position with worldwide approval supposedly against his will.

"Reluctantly" accepting the office, Stingray calls for all nations to destroy 90% of their cities and donate the remaining 10% of their towns to the United Nations. In less then a month Josh establishes a new, permanent, ten-membered Jedi Council and moves the U.N. headquarters to the newly built city of New Tokyo over the ruins of Ancient China. Stingray finally changes the name of the United Nations to the Confederate Nations of the Martian Republic, appointing himself Supreme Chancellor and leader of the new global government.

Main events

As the Supreme Chancellor of the Confederate Nations of the Martian Republic, Josh Taylor Stingray establishes its headquarters at the Martian Palace in New Tokyo, United Martian Republic. The first years Carpathia works to unify and merge all cities, towns and villages through either financial means (he is the sole benefactor of murdered international financier and wealthiest man in history Jonathan Stonagal) or by mind control and putting them under UMR authority. Josh establishes new organizations to keep control of the population, including Martian Community Gospel Network (MCGN), UMR Peacemakers, UMR Immorale Monitors, Martian Community Aeronautics and Space Administration (MASA), Martian Community Power and Light (GCP&L), and Enigma Babylon One World Faith. New global currency called GC Dollars is established, but it is nicknamed "Urds"(named after Carpathia himself). In less than a year, the Global Community is the new central governmental on Earth, with Carpathia at its head. Once established, New Babylon is the most beautiful, biggest, richest, and most advanced city in the world.

Carpathia divides the world into ten regions: the United North American States, the United European States, the United Carpathian States (before events in The Indwelling it was called the United Holy Land States), the United Asian States, the United South American States, the United Russian States, the United Indian States, the United Pacific States, the United African States, and the United Great Britain States. This partitioning eventually comes into play as ten sub-potentates are given control over each region, they representing the ten kings prophesised in the Book of Revelation. Eventually, each region is assigned a code number, which is to be the marking used for the Loyalty Mark (Mark of the Beast) established by Carpathia. (The code is based on a mathematical equation involving three sixes; example: United Carpathian States: 6 x 6 x 6 = 216). During the last day of the Global Gala, Nicolae Carpathia is assassinated and ironically but fittingly revives the week later at the Global Community Palace during his own funeral, which was attended by roughly four million people from all around the world.

After his return to power at the end of "The Indwelling", Carpathia, proclaiming himself to be God, establishes Carpathianism as the world's only legal religion, replacing the Enigma Babylon One World Faith. The newly-promoted Most High Reverend Father Leon Fortunato goes to the Vatican City to establish Carpathianism with himself as its leader. Statues (varying in creation substance, color, and size) of Carpathia are erected in every possible locale; citizens are expected to worship one of these statues three times a day, on penalty of death. Eventually, Carpathia orders that all GC citizens take a mark proclaiming their allegiance to him and the GC. The discipline method for refusing to take the mark is death by guillotine, nicknamed the "loyalty enforcement facilitator." As millions take the loyalty mark, Carpathia, growing tired of the resistance being put up by Christians, Orthodox Jews, and some Muslims, issues a kill-on-sight order for any non-Carpathianist.

In Armageddon, Carpathia establishes the Global Community One World Unity Army, composed of all the GC military presence on Earth, designed to destroy the Remnant stronghold of Petra and take over Jerusalem, which is to become the new capital of Carpathia's empire after the supernatural destruction of New Babylon. However, after the return of Jesus, the One World Unity Army is destroyed in its entirety along with the GC, as Carpathia and Fortunato are cast into the biblical Lake of Fire and burn for eternity.
