Robert I Baratheon, King of the Seven Kingdoms

Robert, the First of His Name of House Baratheon is King of the Seven Kingdoms. He is married to Queen Cersei of House Lannister. They have three children, Prince Joffrey, Princess Myrcella and Prince Tommen.

Lancel and Tyrek Lannister, the queen's cousins, are his squires.

He was formerly Lord of Storm's End.

Robert went to the Eyrie as ward of Jon Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie together with Eddard Stark

Robert was bethroted to Lyanna Stark. He loved her.

Robert vowed to kill Prince Rhaegar Targaryen for what he did to Lyanna Stark.

Aerys II Targaryen, King of the Seven Kingdoms demanded the heads of Eddard Stark and Robert Baratheon from Lord Jon Arryn. He revolted instead.

282 AL Robert and Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell rode forth to win the throne.

283 AL During the Battle of the Trident Robert fought Prince Rhaegar Targaryen at the ford. In the end Robert's warhammer smashed the chest of Prince Rhaegar. When Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell came to the scene men from both sides were scrabbling for rubies knocked of Rhaegar's armor.

Balon Greyjoy, Lord of the Iron Islands proclaimed himself King of the Isles, starting Greyjoy's Rebellion. King Robert joined forces with Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell to defeat him.

289 AL At night in the castle of Pyke Balon Greyjoy, King of the Iron Islands surrendered to King Robert. Balon's son Theon Greyjoy became the hostage and ward of Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell.

290 AL His second son Tommen was born.

King Robert gave a tourney on his son's name day. Jon Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie was healthy then, but a fortnight later he was dead.The Hand of the King, Jon Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie, fell ill and died after a short while. Unable to save him, Grand Maester Pycelle gave Jon milk of the poppy to ease the pain. Tywin Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock accepted to take Robert Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie as his ward, but was refused by Lady Lysa. She and Robert then left King's Landing for the Eyrie in the middle of the night without a word. Cersei was furious.

King Robert did not appoint Robert Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie as the new Warden of the East due to his low age.

King Robert decided to travel north with the royal family to see Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell. Ser Jaime Lannister and Tyrion Lannister were among those following the king.

King Robert arrived at Winterfell. Among the three hundred travelling with him were Queen Cersei, Prince Joffrey Baratheon, Princess Myrcella Baratheon, Prince Tommen Baratheon, Ser Jaime Lannister, two other knights of the Kingsguard, Tyrion Lannister and Sandor Clegane. Cersei and her younger children had travelled there in a wheelhouse.They were met at the gates by Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell, his wife Lady Catelyn and their children, Robb, Sansa, Arya, Brandon and Rickon. On Robert's request he and Eddard left the others and went down to the crypt. They visited the graves of Rickard Stark, Lord of Winterfell, Brandon Stark and Lyanna Stark. They talked of the recent death of Jon Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie. Eddard offered to take Robert Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie as his ward. King Robert refused as Tywin Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock had already accepted, but was refused by Lady Lysa. King Robert admitted he will not appoint Robert Arryn as Warden of the East as long as he is just a child. Robert offered Eddard the office of Hand of the King and to betroth Sansa to Joffrey. Eddard asked for time to consider.

A feast was held in the Great Hall of Winterfell. The royal family entered the hall in procession, Lord Stark first escorting the queen, followed by King Robert and Lady Stark. Then came the children, Rickon, Robb and Myrcella, Arya and Tommen and Sansa and Joffrey. After them came Ser Jaime and Tyrion Lannister. Last came Benjen Stark and Theon Greyjoy. Lord and Lady Stark hosted the king and queen on a raised platform beneath which sat the Stark and royal children. During the feast Lord Stark was in a tense mood while King Robert drank all night.

Description

He is a huge man, six and a half feet tall. In his younger days Robert was clean-shaven, clear-eyed and muscled In the latest nine years Robert has gained eight stone and grown a coarse black beard.
