History
The Targaryens escaped the Doom of Valyria and settled on Dragonstone.
From Dragonstone Aegon I Targaryen, known as the Dragon, with his sisters Visenya and Rhaneys, sailed to conquer and become the first king of the Seven Kingdoms after he had unified them during the Wars of Conquest.
Aegon granted Storm's End to his rumored bastard brother, Orys Baratheon, after he had defeated and slain Argilac the Arrogant, the last of the Storm Kings.
Harren the Black, King of the Isles also ruled the riverlands, however he was not well loved and many of the river lords deserted him, first amongst them Edmyn Tully, Lord of Riverrun. Harren and his line perished in the burning of Harrenhal. Afterwards Aegon granted Edmyn Tully dominion of the lands of the Trident. He allowed the surviving iron lords to chose who should have the primacy among them. They chose Vickon Greyjoy, Lord of Pyke as Lord of the Iron Islands.
The last King in the North, Torrhen Stark, known as the King Who Knelt, chose to swear fealty to Aegon rather than do battle. He therefore kept his land and continued to rule as Lord of Winterfell.
The last King of the Reach, King Mern, perished at the Field of Fire. His steward, Harlen Tyrell, surrendered Highgarden to Aegon. As reward Aegon gave him Highgarden and dominion of the Reach.
Aegon married both his sisters and fathered sons on both.
In the 37th year after Aegon's Landing, Aegon died. He was succeeded by his son with Rhaneys, Aenys I.
In 42 AL Aenys I died. He was succeeded by Aegon I's son with Visenya, Maegor I the Cruel.
In 48 AL Maegor I died. He was succeeded by Aenys I's son, Jaehaerys I the Conciliator.
In 103 AL Jaehaerys I died. He was succeeded by his grandson, Viserys I.
In 129 AL Viserys I died. He was succeeded by his eldest son, Aegon II. However the succession was disputed by Aegon's older sister, Rhaenyra Targaryen. Both perished in the following war called the Dance of Dragons.
In 131 AL Aegon III the Dragonbane, son of Rhaenyra, became king. During his reign the last of the Targaryen dragons died.
In 157 AL Aegon III died. He was succeeded by his eldest son Daeron I the Young Dragon. Daeron conquered Dorne, but was unable to hold it.
In 161 AL Daeron I died. He was succeeded by his younger brother Baelor the Blessed who was both septon and king.
In 171 AL Baelor I died. He was succeeded by his younger brother Viserys II.
In 172 AL Viserys II died. He was succeeded by his eldest son Aegon IV the Unworthy. His younger brother, Prince Aemon the Dragonknight was champion and some say lover to Queen Naerys Targaryen.
In 184 AL Aegon IV died. Daeron II, Queen Naerys' son by either Aegon or Aemon, suceeded him. Daeron II married Princess Myriah Martell and gave his own sister to the reigning Prince of Dorne and thus brought Dorne into the realm.
In 209 AL Daeron II died. He was succeeded by his second son Aerys I. Aerys I left no issue.
In 221 AL Aerys I died. He was succeeded by his younger brother Maekar I.
In 233 AL Maekar I died. He was succeeded by his fourth son Aegon V the Unlikely.
In 259 AL Aegon V died. He was succeeded by his second son Jaehaerys II.
In 262 AL Jaehaerys II died. He was succeeded by his only son Aerys II.
Aerys II had Brandon Stark murdered.
283 AL
Prince Rhaegar, Aerys II' heir, was slain by Robert Baratheon on the Trident.
During the Sack of King's Landing King Aerys was slain by Ser Jaime Lannister. Rhaegar's wife, Elia, and their two children, Princess Rhaenys and Prince Aegon, were also killed.
Queen Rhaella died in childbed on Dragonstone.
