Rening is a Butterfree from Viridian Forest who, unlke normal Butterfree, is white instead of purple. This is due to his ancestor being a light Butterfree that once saved the Pokéworld from an evil Mew demon, and the spirit of his ancestor lives inside him. Literally or not? Who knows. He has a strong and pure heart, and dislikes any evil. And Topmonhit thinks he's kind of boring, unfortunately.

Top Story Bio
Rening was just a regular white Butterfree until some time after Topper met him. It turned out that Rening has the spirit of a 5000 year old Butterfree in him and Rening and the spirit had gone out to fight a 5000 year old demon spirit named Nocktor who had tried to destroy the planet 5000 years ago. Rening won, then he and Topper went back to Viridian Forest. Topper left, then after a while Rening met a Yoshi named Asmodeus and a Grovyle named Zar. They gave Rening a Polmo berry, which, when a Pokemon eats, they can like speak and stuff. He then met the YB a few times, then had to battle Nocktor again. He really only used 1 attack since the YB had been fighting him earlier.
History
Rening's Ancestor
Many, many years ago--about 5000 years ago--a dark Mew demon named Nocktor attempted to destroy the Pokéworld. Although nearly every legendary in existance then banded together to stop it, it wasn't enough. Just then, a white Butterfree appeared; somehow, it used a light-type Hidden Power to damage the dark Mew demon. After a struggle, the other legendaries joined in, and eventually the dark Mew was destroyed--or so it was thought.
The Return of Nocktor
5000 years later, a descendant of that Butterfree, Rening, was born. He didn't know it at first, but he would eventually do what his ancestor did those many centuries ago. One day, a Hitmontop showed up, and introduced himself as Topper. Topper began to live with Rening for a while until suddenly Rening felt a powerful urge to go somewhere. Topper followed, and they ended up on an island where Nocktor, now a Haunter, was trying to destroy the Pokéworld once more. Rening was able to stop him, and supposedly destroyed him. Again, supposedly. Soon after, Topper left. After Topper left, a Grovyle named Zar and a creature that called himself a yoshi named Asmodeus III came by, and Rening obtained a Polmo Berry from them, a berry that gave the eater of it the ability to speak.
The Rereturn of Nocktor and Rerereturn of Nocktor
Time passed and Rening may have appeared in Pokéworld Peril 1 or 2 but I don't remember. At any rate, eventually he sensed darkness once again and went in search of it. Eventually, he located it--Nocktor had returned once again. However, he was nearly defeated by The Yoshi Bodyguards when he arrived, and simply did the final blow to him. Afterwards, Mew, who was there, opened a portal to the underworld, which Nocktor was then thrown in.
Later, some YBs (and not-quite-YBs) returned, seeking shelter from when their planet was being taken over. When they left, Rening stayed behind. Later, Rening felt an evil presence begin to return, so he headed north and got to Sinnoh--Twinleaf Town to be exact. He then used his Platinum Shroom to call Topper and his friends, Top and Oshy. Some other YBs came along as well to help out--at first, it seemed to be Team Rocket trying to kidnap Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf, but then they found out Giovanni had been possessed by Nocktor! Nocktor had apparently absorbed the power of Giratina to escape the underworld, then used Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf to bring Dialga and Palkia and absorb their power so he could destroy space and time.
Rening began to chase Nocktor through both time and dimensions, eventually ending up in another dimension where some weirdos helped them defeat Nocktor, destroying him once and for finally all. Rening then returned to Viridian Forest, hoping that was the last he would ever see of Nocktor.
Personal Information
Personality
Rening has a pure and noble heart, which goes with the fact that he is a light Pokémon. While he is not actually a light-type, though... anyway, he always fights against evil, and always sides with good. He is a good fellow, although can be a bit panicky at some times. Maybe a bit of a free spirit. He also has some boldness in him, which is what his "Pokémon nature" is listed as, which strange for a Butterfree makes him like sour berries (that makes him tough for some reason?); his favorite berry seems to be the Salac Berry.
Appearance
Rening looks like an ordinary Butterfree except that his skin is all white save for his hands, feet, and antennae, which are blue.

Rening has the Compoundeyes ability, which increases his accuracy by a good 30%. Rening also knows 14 attacks:

His Hidden Power attack, however, is not able to be used at any time, and only usable if there is a dark presence he is battling.
Final Smash: Concealed Power
Concealed, Hidden, same thing. Rening charges up a Hidden Power, which is Light type, and it flies around him until all the hidden power balls merge into a giant one you can control for a bit, during which Rening can't be hurt for some reason or other.
Interactions with Other Characters
Rening is friends with most people, and dislikes most villains. In other words, boring.
Topper

Rening and Topper are good friends, given they lived together for an amount of time and in Rening's most recent appearance, he called Topper specifically for help.
Nocktor

Rening and Nocktor are mortal enemies. ...that's it, really.
