The Lunar Star Technology Insitute is a manufacturing company that was created in response to the continuing influence of the Cyber Bell Vanguard and Darkcorp in Star World's technology market. With the blessing of the Council of Star World, several entrepreneurs came together to bring about a technology firm that would both apply the jumps in technology brought in 2003 and still maintain ties to the Star World market.

History

Around 2003, when Mexous Sniffin first presented his advancements in robotics before the Council, it was initially requested that Sniffin's research firm be given SWDF oversight. When that was refused, several private sector groups came together to compete in the growing field of what was named FutureTech. The Lunar Star Institute was given a large sum of money to start from the Council, and formed itself into Star World's second biggest FutureTech provider.

Unlike the Cyber Bell Vanguard, the Lunar Star Institute did not invest in a standing army, relying on the SWDF and Yoshi Bodyguards to defend their assets. After the Dark Ages, the Lunar Star Institute was key in reforming the Yoshi Bodyguard Clone Army, much to the distaste of their competitors in the Cyber Bell Vanguard. Where their technology was of a lower quality, it was also known for much cheaper and easier to maintain, which was needed after the Clone Army had lost 70% of their standing forces and a majority of its fleet in the wake of the Dark Ages.

The Lunar Star Institute bought up parts of the Cyber Bell Vanguard's base of Cyber City, remains competitive with them on the galactic market. There has been some rumor of corporate sabotage and spying between the two companies, but the reports were never investigated.

Some of the biggest advancements brought on by the Lunar Star Institute was the invention of the Lasgun, a cheap effective laser rifle that was more durable and easier to use than any other rifle at the time. Since then it has become the standard arm of the SWDF, though the Clone Army is still known to use solid ammunition.

In addition, the Institute created two of the SWDF and Yoshi Bodyguard's primary fighters, the X-Fighter and the Revenant. Both used a combination of the laser technology of the Institute and the company's advanced guidance capabilities in their missiles. One of their most famous creations is the YSS Windfish, the largest mass-produced supercarrier in the Alliance of Worlds.

LSTI utilized a unique method to build capital ships more quickly. To maximize productivity, the hulls of ships under construction were wrapped in an airtight shroud. When the base was done, the work crew was evacuated, and the atmosphere ignited, burning the material away. The ash would settle on the ship until it moved, when it would be shaken off and the new vessel emerged, clean and tempered.

Aside starships and vehicles, Lunar Star Institute has also produced a variety of gravity and anti-matter missiles. They also contributed to help create the Ion Cannon Defense Grid above Star World and in several prison worlds.

The Lunar Star Institute was largely destroyed in the Star World Civil War, and what remained vanished with Rexxor invaded. Their survivors were destroyed when the universe unraveled.

Facilities

Most of the Institute's main facilities are located inside Cyber City, on Star World's moon. They hold their main shipyards on a space platform in an outer orbit of Star World, where they test some of their larger ships. The platform was damaged in several invasions of Star World, but was finally destroyed in the EMP that leveled the Cyber Bell Vanguard moonbase.

The Institute uses a variety of dead worlds to test some of their weapons systems. it is rumored that said tests were what leveled the Shroob homeworld, but such claims were never confirmed. Their most well known testing ground is the planet Renton, where the SWDF's primary naval base is located.
