From The TimeSplitters Wiki

Is a block of high explosive with a 5 second timer attached. When thrown it will stick to anything it touches including walls and players.
When stuck with a mine an flashing red icon will appear on your screen giving you a few seconds to contemplate your fate as there is no way to difuse a mine once its armed.
