The abundance of maple trees in the community of Thurston gave rise to the manufacture of kitchen implements from burls of the trees. The business was operated by William Jasper Billings in the 1890s.

Mr. W. J. Billings met with an accident yesterday forenoon while

hobbling one of his colts which results in the fracture of his left arm just

above the elbow. The accident was a painful one and owing to his age,

will lay him up for some time.
