Trust that there will be a mechanism to open the door on this side...or another way out

From Create Your Own Story

It's too risky. You can't chance part or all of your body being crushed under the heavy stone door. You shake your head, your long silky dark brown hair flying back and forth, as the door finishes sliding down and locks solidly into place. You carefully inspect the entire area for a similar hidden button to open the door from this side, but find nothing. You sigh. The only thing you can do now is go forward and hope there's another way out, somewhere.

You examine the bridge. It is about six feet wide, and its surface is divided into eight sections, each six feet square. After carefully checking for any sign of traps, you step onto the first square cautiously...

The stone square suddenly falls forward, dangling downward from the beginning of the bridge and sending you plunging towards the dark pit. With your lightning quick reflexes, you grab onto the edge of the second square and use your upper body strength to pull yourself up onto it. You stand still, not daring to move, but the second square remains solid and steady. You light a match and drop it into the abyss. About thirty feet down, it lands on a stone floor filled with massive, razor sharp spikes. Several male skeletons (you can tell from the shape of the pelvic bones) are impaled on the spikes, the remnants of less fortunate and less athletic former adventurers.

With a rumbling noise, the first square begins moving back up and locks solidly back into place, leaving no trace of the lethal trap. You swallow hard as you look at the many squares of the bridge still in front of you, then back at the cold, silent stone door. A thought crosses your mind as your hand brushes against your sticks of dynamite, but you have to dismiss it. Sure, you could try to blow a hole in the door, but there is no place for you to be safely far enough from the explosion unless you go further down the bridge.

With a deep breath, you slowly step forward onto the third square, fully expecting it to fall away, but it remains solid. You repeat the process with the fourth...

The fourth square does fall away. Again you reach out as fast as you can, grabbing for the edge of the fifth square. You almost don't make it this time. Only your right hand manages to grab the edge. Luckily, you have incredible upper body strength, enough to pull yourself up one-handed.

You shake your head as you stand on the fifth square. You can't keep doing this. Next time, you might not be able to grab on. You then look back at the door. You should be far enough away now. You could jump back by way of the squares you know are safe, light the dynamite, jump forward on the safe squares to get away from the explosion, and hopefully blow a hole in the door and find something safer to do.

Then again...You turn around again, looking at the last three squares. You think you may have found a pattern. If you're right, you could safely jump over the trapped squares. But if you're wrong, you'll fall to a grisly death.
