Lady Van Helsing/Smash Dr Dexter

From Create Your Own Story

You work on getting your arms free, keeping an eye on Dr Dexter all the while. Fortunately, he seems to be to preoccupied in his work to pay you much attention.

You manage to free your arms, with only minutes to spare before the sun reaches its zenith. You seize the bar next to you and propel yourself in a leap at Dr Dexter, swinging the bar at the back of his skull. It connects, and his head caves in with a crunch. He collapses stiffly to the floor, motionless. A stream of black smoke pours from his mouth, and in its heart you glimpse a burning three-lobed eye. The smoke disappears in the sunlight, and you breathe a sigh of relief. Despite your fears, it seems that whatever Dr Dexter was dies easier than a vampire.

You untie your ankles, then set about destroying the equipment used in the blasphemous experiment. You pocket the strange crystal, hoping to have it examined back in England, then turn to check on Dr Frinks.

Dr Frinks is still huddled in the corner. He seems calmer than he was, but still has a haunted expression on his face. His breathing seems shallow and labored.

"Its over," you say, "he can't harm you any more." "No," the Doctor replies, "I saw his mind. He... hurt me, inside. Made me do things, buy him equipment, call you. After what he did... I don't think I'll live much longer, now." He shudders. "But its not over. You killed his human body, but that will merely inconvenience him. I saw his thoughts, after a while. An effect of what he did to me." He grabs your arm, panic clear in his face as he stares into your eyes. "He, it, is a god, or something near to it. You cannot kill him, he is a thing of madness, of primordial chaos. But you can stop him. I saw it, the one thing he fears. The stone! The stone that holds him in this world! You must recover it, and destroy it with light and fervent heat." You hold up the crystal. "This stone?" "No," the doctor replies, "the stone that holds him in this world, lies in a box at the bottom of Narragansett Bay, in America. But beware the creature..." He coughs, blood flecking his lips, then with a harsh gasp ceases to breathe.
