Son of Srililayolai and a human fisherman who rescued her from a net when she was masquerading as a dolphin, Tako Zyg grew up in a poor fishing village in Dronos, in the Eastlands. He served his father well mending nets and tending the house until he was old enough to help him on the sea. There, in his mother's house, he found his true purpose. He talked shoals of fish into his father's nets, he swam to the depths of the ocean and brought back tremendous pearls, he befriended the sea folk and hunted sharks for sport. He quickly became the hero of his village, opening trade with the Selkies and the Locathah, and he managed to talk Monsos out of the seasonal hurricanes that had plagued his home country since time immemorial.
He made his father a rich man, and rose quickly through the ranks of his government, but he always protected the fishermen who raised him and their families. When Dronos waged an unjust war, he refused to aid their navy, and only escaped execution by diving into a river and swimming down to the sea. There, while lamenting the fact that he was exiled from his father's country, he met upon Bibrin. The two talked, Tako Zyg sharing his knowledge of the contours of the underwater world and Bibrin his knowledge of the skies. The two met many times, and fell in love. At Bibrin's insistence, Tako Zyg resigned himself to leave his father's world and enter his mother's, finally accepting the duties of his divinity. He continues to watch over those who make their living upon the sea, occasionally showing up in disguise to protect them when they need aid. He's much beloved by coastal peoples, as long as they treat the ocean well, and he's not very well known anywhere else.
