Popple somehow entered into an empty town that he thought would be a good place to hide out, but The Yoshi Bodyguards appeared and chased after him, trying to take the skull gem from him. During a scuffle inside a building the skull gem flew out the window, after which Popple was pummeled by Coshi. He was badly damaged and captured, and they treated his wounds so that he could tell them where Koop's kidnapped family members were, but he escaped. He was recaptured and demanded they take his back hat from Chibi in exchange for information; Chibi happens to arrive at that moment and they exchange hats. Popple then reveals one of Koop's siblings was in the empty town. After they went back in, Popple escaped again.
