Notable Jinjos

Jinjos are a race of bird-like creatures from Rareworld. They have somewhat magical powers, but are usually helpless and get stick in random places where they then need to be rescued. In the last 8 years or so, though, they've become less helpless and more minigame-ish. Most of them reside in Jinjo Village, although some live elsewhere.

History

Years Ago

The Jinjos were a peace-loving race for many years. One day, however, a hag in a mechanical robo-suit came and took control of their land, trapping them (by making them unable to move probably) and toppling over a head of their ruler. A bear and bird came to defeat the witch, but the Jinjos had to leave for a new land, a place they came to call Jinjo Village.

Gruntilda Attacks

The Jinjos settled and were at peace for years. Then some of them were kidnapped for some reason and once again trapped by being unable to move. The bear and bird returned, and were known as Banjo and Kazooie. The hag was known as Gruntilda. Banjo and Kazooie saved many Jinjos, and in return, during their final battle against Grunty, the Jinjos helped the duo defeat her, after which the Jinjos' main diety, the Jinjonator, helped Banjo and Kazooie defeat her once and for all (well, not really once and for all...)

Return of Gruntilda

Two years later, Gruntilda returned along with her sisters, Mingella and Blobbelda. Using a large driller called the Hag 1, the sisters plowed through Jinjo Village, destroying the Gray Jinjo House and killing the gray jinjos. The rest of the Jinjos ended up fleeing, and Banjo and Kazooie had to find them. This task is given to them by the ruler of Jinjo Village, King Jingaling. Unfortunately, after he did this, Grunty and her sisters hit him with the Big O' Blaster, zombifying him for the rest of the game. At the end, Banjo and Kazooie revived him, and the other Jinjos were returned to their homes.

Jinjo Bingo

Eight years later, Banjo and Kazooie were sent to Showdown Town for the "final" showdown with Grunty. There, King Jingaling had begun a Jinjo Bingo game, which Banjo and Kazooie could play by getting bingo tokens from various Jinjos, who, instead of being rescued, now had you play a specific type of minigame.

The Jinjo Village of Today

Time passed, and a new Jinjo came to live in Jinjo Village named Gonji. Soon after, Gonji was put on trial for illegal explosives, but when two Jinjos were kidnapped by some robots, he went to save them. Other than that, the Jinjos continue to be a peaceful, happy species. More or less.

Characteristics and Appearance

Jinjos have long, pointy ears and long, pointy noses. They are multicolored, sort of like yoshis, and seem to be somewhat birdlike, although they have only been known to fly when Banjo or Kazooie collects one, at which point they fly around them, then disappear. Known Jinjo colors include green, red, yellow, orange, blue, purple, white, black, gray (supposedly deceased), and brown.

Jinjos often converge into a village of jinjos. Each village has a specific ruler (in the case of Jinjo Village, that ruler is King Jingaling) and all the Jinjos divide into families separated by color. Despite this, there is no real biased toward any one color, although some colors are rarer than others. Jinjos also have the habit to whistle and call out to people in order to get their attention.

Minjos

The jinjos have evil look-alikes in the form of Minjos. Minjos look just like jinjos, except... for nothing. They look just like jinjos. Minjos are evil, aggressive, and shocking; if Banjo or Kazooie were to approach one, it would begin to make a zapping noise while growling and would try to run into them, hurting them. It is unknown why the Minjos are so aggressive. On a side note, the minjos' appearance changed in BKNB--they had the same shape, but were now darker with red eyes, sharp teeth, and chains. The chains are likely because they escaped from a prison, though.

Trivia

  • Apparently, the idea of the Jinjos was originally the opposite of the final product (originally they were collectables that would run from you and camaflogue themselves, instead of whistling and trying to get your attention).
  • Topmonhit believes all the Jinjos (except King Jingaling) in BKNB are female due to their appearance. Seriously, they look female!
