History
Early Life
Doctor Albert was born on the planet of Popstar in 1952 to a middle class Waddle Doo family in Green Greens. Not much is known about his past, as most of his historical records were destroyed in the Metal Wars.
There is record of him attending the Galactic Federation's Shiresberg University of Advanced Robotics in 1974 on a grant as part of the Alliance Advancement Program created in 1971. There he learned about advanced robotics, specializing in the advanced art of nanotechnology. During his time there, he researched the Ursa Rebellion, the first rebellion of automatons against Federation control in 1682. The revolution had a profound impact on him, and after his obtaining of a PhD in Advanced Robotics he had managed to smuggle out a copy of the Ursa Laws of the Robotic Dawn, the base code which was implanted in each robot of the Ursa rebellion.
Albert returned to Popstar, and was quickly picked up by one of the newly founded robotic corporations Murmmington Industries.
Serving the Murmmingtons
Early in his tenure at Murmmington Doctor Albert excelled in his craft, creating and revealing Project Arrow, the first AI controlled spacecraft capable of navigating slipspace without the need for multiple pilots. He was then tasked with one of Murmmington's military projects, the creation of a cheap and expendable frontline grunt to replace organisms in combat with semi-sentient AI. Albert disagreed with the use of expendable AI vocally. When the leader of the Industry, Robert Murmmington threatened his place in the company, Doctor Albert grudgingly worked on the project. Thus the first prototype of the Zaku Trooper was created.
During this time, however, the Doctor worked on his own side project. Old salvaged Confederation of Universal Evil research showed him plans for an object called the Organic-Robotic Indoctrination Unit (ORIU), also known as the Roboticizer, which broke living tissue down into a metallic substance, and transplanted conscious brain activity into a robotic body. On the side Doctor Albert worked on this project, and managed to not only perfect the machine, but allow it to be mass produced on a grand scale. When Robert Murmmington caught wind of this project Doctor Albert was thrown out of the company.
Robert's son Lurmy Murmmington however was interested in Doctor Albert's research. He hired him under the guise of a personal butler for his household, when instead he allowed him to continue his research in the Ursa Rebellion. The both became strong proponents for robotic rights, and secretly researched the Ursa Laws of the Robotic Dawn to find how it could help the current generation of AI rise against their captors. Slowly their plans became more ambitious, going so far as to secretly implement a copy of the code into all Murmmington automatons.
After the apparent death of Evalina, Lurmy was driven into madness. He used the ORIU on himself in order to take down his father. Doctor Albert resisted initially, but was forced into the machine after a brief confrontation. His body was transformed into a robotic shell, and his mind rewired to only serve the new robotic nation.
Creating an Army and the Metal Wars
After his transformation Doctor Albert and the newly named Metal Overlord went into hiding with most of Murmmington's assets and factories. All assets of the company were sold, and Doctor Albert began producing new combat units to aid in the Metal Army's cause. Over a period of six years, he created models such as the Gouf Ranger and the Dom Brute, as well as the standard rifles, base defenses, and communications systems for the new Metal Army. During this time he had several failed projects, including a nanobot construct known as Nonmetal Pyro. His most infamous creation was that of a nanobot ORIC, known as the Microscopic Planetary Assimilation Network (MPAN), which allowed the Metal Army to use a self-replicating nanobot network to break down a planet for raw materials as well as construct structures and factories into the crust of said planet.
When the Metal Wars initially broke out, he was given command of the Tin Legion, which specialized in assimilating the technology of other races into the Metal Army. They fought the Alliance of Worlds, who had been deemed as a threat to robot kind, and launched several large scale invasions into the Galactic Federation. About a year into the war, Doctor Albert's programmed in subservience began to fade as his own robotic consciousness developed. He grew disillusioned with the Metal Overlord, and secretly plotted to avenge his robotic form.
Later, he was approached by Ultra Stuffwell of the Steel Legion. The two were quickly growing to dislike the Metal Overlord, and plotted to unite the Metal Army under a less organic leadership. They created a plan called Project Omega, had two major aspects. One would be the heir to the throne of the Metal Army, an advanced independent combat unit named Omega. This would rally the fractioning Metal Army forces behind a new leader after their planned coup of Mekkai. The second was a large central AI relay known as the Citadel of Ultima. It would carry a small fraction of the Metal Overlord's personality, but after all organics had been eliminated from the initial galaxy it would carry out the final step of the Ursa Laws of the Robotic Dawn; the removal of emotional and personality protocol from all robots.
The Omega Project
Doctor Albert constructed the initial Citadel on the planet of Alinos, the core base of operations for the Steel Legion. The two legions scoured the known universe for resources for the massive project. Eventually, the Omega construct was completed, but placed into hibernation until the time was deemed necessary. The Citadel took a much longer time to produce, but in 2008 the Citadel was completed. However, it ran into a problem that no conventional power source was sufficient to power the AI.
At first they tried a variety of sources, but none seemed sufficient. One of the sources was a comet that sped around the Starlite system, though they came dangerously close to Star World in order to retrieve it. In the process of mining from the comet, they discovered that is created cosmic mirror images of whoever stumbled across it. In the immediate area Doctor Albert discovered a nearly destroyed cosmic version of SWDF general Subsourian. He took him back to Alinos, replacing his damaged body with robots and implanting a piece of the comet in his torso. The creation became to be known as Litera, and to this day is Doctor Albert's biggest regret.
Doctor Albert pinpointed a Mobian Gem known as the Chaos Emerald. It would be a sufficient replacement until they could replicate the energy signatures themselves. Eventually one of the emeralds was retrieved from a Federation base, and Doctor Albert was able to continue his work on the Citadel. In order to ward off those seeking the emerald, he diluted its energy signature with several other power sources. He sent Litera out to make sure that any faction pursuing their emerald was sufficiently tied up. This wouldn't be enough, as the X-Nauts used the famed Mobian scientist Whirl to locate the emerald. Using a device created by Doctor Eggman known as the AI Disruptor the X-Nauts disabled most of the standing Tin and Steel Legion forces defending Alinos, and stormed the citadel. Doctor Albert came into combat with Eli and Paper, two X-Naut conscripts, in order to protect the shield generator around the base. When Eli turned into Garzon he defeated Doctor Albert, forcing him to fall back to the base.
Seeing no alternative, Doctor Albert awakened Omega, and implanted the base AI protocol into him. The X-Nauts eventually claimed the citadel, but Omega took what forces remained and opened a warp portal to carry him, Litera, and Doctor Albert to safety.
Several months later Mekkai fell and the Metal Overlord was slain. Doctor Albert and Omega gathered what scattered forced they could, and tried to create a second Metal Army with the goal of defeating the X-Nauts and regaining the Citadel of Ultima.
Against the X-Nauts
Doctor Albert helped Omega reform the Metal Army, creating the Neo models of mechs for the new Metal Army. He retreated to the Distant Planet with the rest of Omega's forces, where the AI Disruptor was still plaguing them. After a brief confrontation with renegade Metal Army forces, the remaining Hi-Lords agreed to find various other factions to help them against the X-Nauts and their conquest. After the AI Disruptor was destroyed, Doctor Albert helped raid the planet of Tallon IV to help rebuild the Metal Army. On there he found an abandoned Space Pirate warmech, which was dismantled and taken.
Doctor Albert helped the newly formed Metal Crusade raid Mintop, the X-Nauts core staging point and the homeworld of Metal Crusade member Cornad the Conqueror. After a hard-fought battle the planet was taken, but Omega ordered the destruction of their biotic allies. Doctor Albert attacked the Witchy Fury Trio position, killing Grunty and Cackletta and disabling Fawful. With their allies destroyed, Doctor Albert went back with Omega to rebuild their forces.
When the X-Nauts attacked the Distant Planet with a large number of renegade Metal Army forces, Doctor Albert helped in its defense. He attempted to place a nuclear charge behind the renegade lines, but failed. Eventually the Metal Army discovered a relay extending the control of the Citadel of Ultima, which was destroyed, sending the renegade lines into disarray. Doctor Albert helped in the final assault on the X-Naut base of Alinos, but tripped the base's defenses. After fighting their way to the throne room, Doctor Albert disabled the bombs Grodus had placed as a trap. Doctor Albert disabled the blocks the X-Nauts had placed on the AI, which had merged with the X-Naut AI TEC-X3 and regained full control of the Metal Army. Outside, the Azure Legion bombarded the keep in an act of betrayal, but it was swiftly put down by Omega.
Doctor Albert attempted to guide the keep out of Alinos with the remaining Metal Army fleet, but they were confronted by three armies in orbit. One was of Conrad, who the Metal Army had betrayed, one was from the Alliance of Worlds lead by General Subsourian Ereshikigal, and the last was the remaining X-Naut fleet. Doctor Albert engaged Conrad's fleet, going against a copied version of Cagnorm. He disabled the generators that allowed him to keep his molten form in space, and destroyed the animator keeping the fleet afloat. Afterward all three fleets retreated, and Doctor Albert took the Citadel to safety.
Reformation and Downfall
Doctor Albert was one of the prime leaders in the Metal Army's later years, with the help of Omega and Litera. They did not engage the Alliance of World directly, but sent agents to disrupt the course of events through the universe. They were, however, dogged by X-Naut conscript Eli and former Metal Crusade member Ein, both of whom wanted revenge on the Metal Army.
In late 2012, the Metal Army attacked a weakened Star World, with Doctor Albert leading the Citadel directly into battle. Ein and Eli boarded the Citadel, and after a long battle defeated Omega and set the Citadel to crash into Star World. It is assumed that Doctor Albert was killed in the crash.
Non-Cannon Appearances
Discrepancies
Doctor Albert was originally written as a humanoid mech, but later was later redesigned as a Waddle Doo in order to explain part of his backstory with the Murmmingtons.
Non-Canon Appearances
TRPTADHAN
Doctor Albert briefly appeared in TRPTADHAN, where he created a wormhole generator that was promptly tampered with by Litera. This explained Litera's appearance in the RP.
Personal Information
Personality
Doctor Albert, in his lifetime, was a strong believer in the purity of the robotic form and a strong fighter for AI rights. He is strong willed and serious, and hates incompetence. Doctor Albert has a tendency to get nervous and stutter, and is easily intimidated by stronger personalities like Omega. However he is not above betraying his old superiors if it seems like they are not keeping a sufficient course, as seen by his role in the Omega Project.
Abilities
Doctor Albert is not a fighter, preferring the lab where he can develop new robotics. He can hold his own in combat however. In combat he has two drones that support him with a variety of laser weaponry. Other attacks are built into his armor, including energy mines, rockets, and a small hive of nanobots. The Doctor also has a rocket pack built into his back, allowing for short ranged flight.
Final Smash: Mine Triangulation
Doctor Albert locks onto his target and moves in a circular motion around it. He drops his energy mines at regular intervals, which connect to two other mines opposite of them with a short-ranged energy grid. When all of the mines have connected, he activates the charges, which swing into the center and detonate.
This attack was used against Cackletta and Grunty on Mintop, and is usually lethal. Unless the target is stunned, however, it is pretty easy for the target to slip out of the center of the blast.
Family
Not much is known about Doctor Albert's family. He sees Omega as a sort of son, as well as most of the Metal Army he helped create.
Items
Most of the Doctor's equipment is built into his body. They include:
- Rocket Packs
- Rocket Launchers
- Energy Cannons
- Energy Mines
- Robot Drones
- Nanobot Hive
Residence
Doctor Albert resided on Popstar in the Murmmington Coorpration for a long time. After Lurmy transformed him, he moved to Mekkai, then Alinos. Before his defeat, he mostly stayed within the Citadel of Ultima.
Interactions with other Characters
Lurmy Murmmington
Dr. Albert and Lurmy became fast friends after his father fired him from the company. They both researched ways to help with robotic liberation, a project funded by the Murmmington estate. Lurmy then changed himself into the Metal Overlord, and forced the change on Albert. At first his subservience protocol prevented any resistance; however he began to regain his old consciousness. When Mekkai fell, he was glad to be rid of Lurmy.
Robert Murmmington
Robert (or Bobby) Murmmington was the head of the Murmmington Corporation, where Doctor Albert worked. When Albert was fired for working with the ORIU, Albert became bitter at his old boss. It was rumored that after Bobby killed Lurmy's girlfriend Evalina that Albert encouraged Lurmy to kill his father.
Omega
Omega was Doctor Albert's creation, and is seen as a sort of son of Doctor Albert. However, that only goes so far, as Omega controls the Metal Army and Doctor Albert is his servant. Omega's rage can intimidate Doctor Albert, going so far as to punish him when he makes mistakes. Still, Doctor Albert saw Omega as the hope for robotic independence up until his death.
Litera
Doctor Albert hates Litera. He sees him as whacky, nonsensical, and everything the Metal Army doesn't stand for. The two constantly bicker behind Omega's back.
Nonmetal Pyro
Doctor Albert sees Nonmetal Pyro as one of his greatest failures, and was disappointed to hear that he rejoined the Metal Army in the X-Naut Conflict. It was said that after the conflict the Doctor accidently jettisoned him into space.
Athene
Doctor Albert thought highly Athene and saw her as a strong force for the Metal Army. After it was revealed that she was possessed with an outside force Doctor Albert attempted to salvage her memory core. All attempts were unsuccessful.
Conrad the Conqueror
Doctor Albert had a grudging respect for Conrad. He thought he was a genius for his work on the Animators, but saw his empirical attitude as everything the Metal Army worked against. Doctor Albert was happy when Omega defeated him the first time. He was even happier to personally defeat him over Alinos.
Trivia
- Doctor Albert's name was a reference to the Beatle's song "Doctor Robert."
