Amani was born and raised in Cairo. As the only daughter of her family, the traditional responsibility of finding a hospitable man to marry and settle in with fell to her.
Though, while old-fashioned, her parents (both having in grown up in a time of revolution and progression in Cairo) did not seem to mind Amani's wishes to persue an education. Infact, they backed and financed her goal of becoming a doctor when she became old enough to attend university.
It was at university she met Alan. Originally she was amused by him, this straight and proper buisness-like caucasian out to prove his family wrong by playing cops and robbers. The first time he asked her on a date, she refused (as is customary). The second time, she refused as well. Her entire family seemed to treat the subject of him as a strange-yet-fluffy animal, this foreign boy who wouldn't leave their daughter alone. The third time, she agreed on a whim.
Years later, they were married.
Now Amani works as a nurse, her school funding cut when she married Alan (the responsibility was no longer her parents to provide for schooling). She is happy with her life, though she wishes both families were a little closer, and that hers would stop being so scared stiff of Alan and ask -him- all the strange questions they always seem to have.
At 29, after so many years of trying to have a child, Amani is finally five months pregnant. Even in such troubled times with terrorist attacks let and right, she wants nothing more to stay in Cairo and raise her child with Alan. She refuses to leave the city, it is her home.
She has no idea of her and her husband's destiny.

Amani is cheerful, but like all Cairoites she has a fiery temper underneath. Being with Alan has loosened her up - she no longer doubts jumping into conversation she previously thought she didn't belong in, and gleefully teases any coworker Alan happens to bring by to the house. Nor does she tolerate any womanising or Crap in General from anyone. All males should be Understanding and Handsome like her husband.
Her current Big Goal is to get Alan to stop smoking. So far, not even threats of making him watch Sleepless in Seattle (romantic comedies are her guilty pleasure) over and over seem to phase him.

The ability to rewind time. It's a one-shot deal, and can only be done for a maximum of two minutes. As her power becomes more prominent, all parties involved are aware of what's happened, not just her. As of now it's only used when her and Alan argue, and she has no idea he may or may not have told her she looked a little chubby in those jeans the first time she asked.
