John Melnick

John Edmond Melnick (Born: 1963) is a Democrat Congressman from Sioux Falls in South Dakota, in Big Sky Country. He was elected in January 2016. Although his home region of South Dakota is largely Republican, he was elected when an Independent and a Republican split the polls and enabled him to be elected on 51% over his closest rivals 27%.

Melnick was formerly

• Mayor of Sioux Falls from 1988 to 1991
• South Dakotan Secretary of State from 1991 to 1997
• State Senator from 1997 to 2010.

Congressman Melnick was also Chairman of Melnick plc and a Board Member on the Sioux Falls City Bank from 2010 to 2016.
