Overview

Parliamentary elections in the United Kingdom must be held at least once every 5 years. The last election was held in 2016, so the next election must be held on or before 2021. An election may be held earlier than that, and given the lack of an absolute majority in the House of Commons, the current Prime Minister William Hague may choose to call an early election if he feels that doing so will give him such a majority. Another possibility is the passage of a motion of no confidence by Labour and the Liberal Democrats, which would also send the United Kingdom to the polls early.
