Dale Oltman- Former Deputy Commissioner of the FDA

Dale Oltman was born on December 9, 1958 in Seattle, Washington to Derrick and Rose Oltman. Oltman graduated from Seattle University with a Major in the Culinary Arts and a minor in physics in 1980. Oltman wrote in his book that throughout college he survived on pot pies. In 1981 he began a restaurant in downtown Seattle where he served pot pies to many satisfied customers. In 1986 he joined the Seattle Police and in 1990 became an intern for the FDA. Then, in 1994 he was hired as an FDA agent. Then, in 2001 Oltman was nominated by President Bush to be Deputy Commissioner of the FDA. He was confirmed and in 2008 he issued a class 1 product recall of all pot pies sold from March 27-March 31st. He also ordered a cookie and milk recall that same day. On January 20, 2009 he assumed the role of acting commissioner of the FDA. In May he left office and cleared the way for Margaret Hamburg. He is now running for congress.
