• Peter Parker lies on the floor of his basement and contemplates the state of his life and the fact that Mary Jane has dumped him (Ultimate Spider-Man 32). He notes that he is screwing up at home and at school, that he failed Harry and Uncle Ben. In anger, he throws his cordless phone and breaks it against a wall.
• Peter notices a storage closet in the basement. Inside he finds several boxes labeled “Parker” that contain memorabilia of his parents. There are also pictures of his father, Richard Parker, shaking hands with another man that appears to be some kind of scientific partner. Peter finds a videotape in the box and proceeds to watch it.
• The videotape contains footage of Peter’s family having a picnic with another family that includes a young boy that Peter is playing with. May comes downstairs and watches the video with Peter. She tells Peter that the boxes of things belonged to his parents and are now his. May tells him that the other family on the videotape was the Brock family. Ed Brock was Richard Parker’s partner and the boy was Eddie Brock Jr. who Peter used to play with everyday. Eddie was a few years older than Peter.
• May tells Peter that Eddie Brock moved away with his grandparents when his parents died in the same plane crash that Peter’s parent died in. Peter only vaguely remembers playing with Eddie but decides to try to find him and give him a copy of the videotape.
• Peter locates Eddie in the internet white pages and calls him. Eddie remembers Peter and invites him to come into the city and hang out to catch up.
• Peter visits Empire State University and locates Eddie Brock at his dorm room. Eddie quickly introduces Peter to his roommate, who he does not seem to get along well with. Peter and Eddie then go out for coffee. They discuss their fathers’ work, Eddie’s college workload, and Peter’s breakup with MJ.
• Peter gives Eddie a copy of the picnic videocassette. Eddie tells Peter that this is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for him and then tells Peter he has something to show him as well. He takes Peter into the University labs and shows him the contents of a cooling locker. Inside is a vial filled with a black material that Eddie refers to as “our inheritance.”

- First appearance of Ultimate Eddie Brock.
- In the picnic video, present members of Peter’s family include Peter’s parents (Richard and Mary Parker), Ben and May Parker, and Peter himself.
- On the picnic video, Ed Brock Sr. mentions a “piece on Reed Richards in Time Magazine”. There is no indication of the time period that the video was shot, but it is likely that it refers to one of Reed’s early science achievements, possibly his science fair experiment in Ultimate Fantastic Four 1.
- Eddie Brock’s current address is at 44 Tony Stark Building, Empire State University, NYC 97214. His phone number is listed as 1-212-578-0808.
- Eddie tells Peter that he is majoring in astrophysics and he is now in the bioengineering program.
- The Science Building at Empire State University is named the “Reed Richards Science Center”.
