• In New York, Xavier, Storm, Jean Grey, and Colossus attend a party where they are to meet their benefactors, the Hellfire Club. The Club attacks the X-Men and subdues them. They awake to be tied to an altar while the Club influences Jean Grey into unleashing the Phoenix.

• Jean manifests the Phoenix and burns the Hellfire club alive, she changes their bank accounts to empty their funds into Xavier’s accounts. Xavier talks Jean down and indicates that he believes that there is no Phoenix, that Jean is simply afraid of being happy with Scott Summers.

• Beast is attacked by the Brotherhood of Mutants while going to meet “Naomi”. The Brotherhood’s psychics retrieve the information of Magneto’s whereabouts from his head and use this to release Magneto.

• Magneto retakes his position of leader of the Brotherhood. He kills Prosimian, seeing him as a lesser species.

Notes:

- Among the guests and members of the Hellfire Club are the Russian President and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sebastian Shaw is introduced as the leader of the Club.

- Stephen Hawking is referenced as having written an article in the London Times stating that mutants are mankind’s last hope against the evolution of artificial intelligence.

- Xavier identifies Jean as being an “18 year old telepath”. This conflicts earlier statements in Ultimate X-Men 2 and Ultimate X-Men 3 of Jean being 19 years old.
