Real Life: Mark James Bowness

Tribe Name: Chief Marika

Roles in tribewanted: Concept Creator. tribewanted business developer.

Mark is a man of ideas, some whacky, some crazy, some random but he has a dream to continually develop 'something different'. Having a passion for travel and an interest in online communities Mark got hooked on the idea of developing a concept that would see people from across the world meet via an online community and develop something real, that actually existed offline - tribewanted was born along with the statement - 'This is not reality TV - it's real life'.

Mark, being consumed with developing crazy ideas began a hunt to find someone who was willing and adventurous enough to take on the tribewanted challenge.Someone who would try and start a global tribe! So Mark called his mate Ben. Mark knew Ben loved challenges, travel and adventure and so he bet Ben £1000 that he couldn’t build a global tribe that existed in real life on an island as well as online. Ben was unable to say no to the challenge, the bet was made and the tribewanted challenge began.

Mark’s role in the tribe is now to support Ben and Becky in their challenge to find 5000 people to join a tribe and to help develop tribewanted behind the scenes.

Updates

In January 2007, it was announced that Mark would be leaving Vorovoro but would still remain an active contributor to the Tribewanted online community. Below are the key paragraphs from the newsletter explaining the reasons for the change.

"As the focus of Tribewanted has shifted to Vorovoro over the last few months it has become obvious that only one person needs to drive this project forward. Ben has been based on Vorovoro for the last 6 months and is best placed for this role. Mark is unable to permanently move to Vorovoro, due to his own commitments."

"Since the launch of Tribewanted Mark has also received considerable interest in his other ideas, and would like the opportunity to take these forward. The good news is that Mark is not leaving the tribe; he will continue to be an active member online, help raise awareness and funds for the Dream Foundation, and aims to be back on Vorovoro in 2007."
