Chief Poques
From Tribewanted
1) Why would I like to be Chief?
I would be honoured and shall promote the interests of the Tribe wholeheartedly everyday throughout my role as Chief.... I feel I hold the Tribe ethos very close to my heart and would work extremely hard to show the Tribe and others the benifits of our Dream.. I will show through my desire to help and assist the Tribewanted team and the Tribe that we can achieve the goals laid out for a sustainable Eco development on the Island. Last but not least , I think I'm just about crazy enough to want to be the Chief in the first place....
2) What relevant skills would I bring to this role?
Team working I have managed teams of up to 35 people within the field of commerce in sales, construction and service trades within business/ projects that I have run in the past. I find it a pleasure dealing with people and I can cope with unforeseen situations and deal with them in my stride. In fact I thrive on such moments. I will listen to other's wisdom as I know I still have much to learn. I shall try hard to begin to build a community which will work in harmony within it's surroundings and eachother.. I will Respect Chief Tui Mali's wishes and shall seek his approval in all that we do on his Island. I will try to understand his culture and beliefs and focus on integrating them into our stay upon the Island.
Carpentry Skills I am a Carpenter by trade and shall promote the use hand tools. I feel my skills will be a valuable asset in building lodgings, bures etc
Problem Solving I can overcome problems which may arise via logical means with only limited resources. I shall be honest in my opinions and helpful in assisting others in overcoming issues that arise from members both on the Island and within the online community. I have been many things in life, both good and bad, but believe you must live life to understand it. By doing so I understand people. I want , to honestly see all around me succeed in all they do and I will try everything in my power to assist them in doing so. If only with a smile and a pat on the back. Because the smallest of things, sometimes can be the most profound.
3) What, other than my skills, makes me the right person for this role?
My total belief in the Tribe and Tribewanted. My total and utter commitment and enthusiasm towards this project. My ability to listen to others and respect their opinion. My desire to see all around me happy and to create harmony. My hands on approach, I'm willing to get stuck in, what ever is required. My promise to work very hard both manually and from the point of planning. I am a quick learner and shall think on my feet as things unfold. When I'm wrong about something I am willing to accept that and will learn from others.
4)What would I like to achieve as Chief?
I would like to lay the first foot prints for other Chiefs to follow and build upon which will take the tribe and our community firmly and safely onwards.
To leave a safe foundation behind me which they feel happy and secure building upon towards our mutual objectives of creating an Ecological sustainable home for the Tribe. Even though my knowledge is limited in many areas I shall source any required help from the ranks within the Tribe.
I shall place ideas put forward by the Tribe members into practical use… I would hope to create basic yet comfortable dwellings for the first wave of members.. I shall put in place the basic sanitation requirements also... The sourcing of safe Water and some kind of delivery system will be high on my agenda, which will be needed to be addressed from day one....
You can only do so much within a month, with the help of other members, local tradesman and the permanent team on the Island, I shall create the basis needed for the project to begin to evolve.....
5)As Chief I would be given a small pot of money with which to leave my legacy. How will I spend it?
I would like to leave my legacy in the hearts and souls of the members that follow me, with the belief that as a Tribe we can and shall overcome problems collectively. I think I will plant a Tree, that will grow at the centre of a meeting place that's able to seat all of the Tribe members present on the Island.
A place where all members could discuss and overcome problems that will arise on the Island . This Communal area will be at the heart of our community and show everyone that the community spirit and well being is the heart beat that shall feed our honest and true development. The tree’s growth and fruits will represent the Tribes growth and development both on and off the Island.
Around the circle I would place 5 large stone rimmed Fires. One each to signify each 1000 members. These fires can be used for warmth and cooking alike. In between each fire some basic seating for 20+ members , therefore 100+ can be present at any one time.
Next to each fire will be a small Totem of sorts, where members can carve a message or symbol into it , thus leaving their mark.
I would hope this area will teach everyone to respect the community therefore eachother and the environment around them.
I would like all members to place a small stone , engraved with their Tribal name around the the foot of the Tree to show they are willing to commit and abide by these simple beliefs and principles. If any member then wished to speak to the whole Tribe in open forum, they would go to the centre , touch the tree and speak to the whole Tribe and the Tribe would respectfully listen. So I would like my legacy to be ,an Island Tribal Forum..... Any excess funds that may be left, I would donate to the Dream Foundation
6)Tell you something interesting about myself.
Apart from playing Poker for a living, which some members have found interesting I don't know! I have an ability to operate on very little sleep as I tend to go to bed last and am the first up in the morning.
Oh! here is something amusing, I was in the Guinness Book of Records once with the Bletchley Boys Brigade for peeling the most potatoes in an hour by hand! .( so we won't run short of Chips ) But to be honest, the most amazingly interesting thing about my life at the moment and it will take a lot to surpass it, is ' Tribewanted'.
I don't know what else to say really. But i'm sure you'll all agree, that ' Tribewanted ' is very interesting!!
7)In one sentence, why should the Tribe elect me Chief?
Because I totally believe in the Tribe and promise to work very hard indeed to fulfil the members wishes to the best my abilities, whilst holding the Honour of Chief!
