[edit] Personality

A loose canon to say the least, Yami no Malik is a rather sadistic soul and you dont have to look to far to see that. A rather sick obsession with pain, he is properly personified for a creature created simply out of a rather intense case of dissociative identity disorder. There is whole plethora of words used to describe such a character, a rather sadistic soul, he enjoys nothing more than to see others squirm beneath his hold. Considering himself god-like, his ego expands all barriers of self-consciousness and he comes off as a rather arrogant and power hungry individual. Behind his insanity though rests a rather clever mind, intelligent, rather much a strategist, always trying to find the best way out of a situation or the best way to gain the upper hand. His appearance makes him rather intimidating, the glowing Eye of Horus upon his head, his sharp features and his rather hard and callous eyes, baring no pupils. Rather spasmodic in his movements at times, he comes off as rather masochistic, uncaring and rude to those around him. He cares little for the wellbeing of others and only for himself, selfish being a good word to describe it. Manipulative in his actions, he will try to bend the trust of anyone to gain his own way, working people up before bringing them down only for himself. Touch, and not easy to break minus the fact his mind already is, he can come off as rather desperate to achieve his goals, normally laced with the ill intent that surrounds him, the agony of which he is made of. Mocking and at times flirtatious, he uses these characteristics for pleasure either insulting another or drawing them in, either he has no issues with and does not much care what others think of him, as long as he is himself, he finds no need to worry about the words of others. It one thing though, if one ever does get on his good side, possession is something one would have to be wary of, for once you are in his hands, he never really wants to let you go. Property should stay with one master.

[edit] Powers and Abilities

Canonly, Yami no Malik gains most of his power from the power of the Sennen Rod, his deck of cards and his own internal darkness that fuels most of his mysterious and often supernatural-based skill. The Sennen Rod, or the Millennium Rod, was founded and created within the throws of Ancient Egypt and belonged originally to the high priest. Gaining the rod from his host, Malik, who was the would-be tomb keeper, his own job to watch after the items and perform his duty to serve the pharaoh. When Yami no Malik arose from the darkness of his soul, he took with him the item and slew his father with the dagger concealed within the shaft of the rod. Using the powers of the item, Yami no Malik maintained the ability to enslave and control minds, as well as banish peoples souls and consciousness to realms beyond the physical plain. Not only can it crush ones mind it can also read them by the powers granted of telekinesis and shadow influences, making nightmares a great load of fun. Second on his list involves the influences of the card game Duel Monsters in which the cards essentially come to life. Yet not the fairest of all game players Yami no Malik takes this a step further and brings out the powers of the shadow games, a natural talent has the ability to draw out of himself due to the darkness he was forged from. The cards become more than realistic, they cause damage and a great deal of trouble, willing the souls stuck within the game to torture through loss and pain and suffering during the fight. His most powerful card though, is much like a trick hand. The only means to control the creature is if the use can decipher and recite and incantation of the base of the card, something he is rather capable of achieving, which draws luck out of every duel if his hands are lucky enough to draw his beloved god card. Unlike the other Yamis in the game though, he is not created by death, he is created by insanity and the desire of hate, revenge and agony, he is essential instead of a spirit, a split personality obsessed with the pain of the world and only controlled by his originally persona, Malik. With Malik removed from his body and his darkness in control, Yami no Malik becomes a rather loose canon, an unstable creation with a great amount of power in his hands.

All his powers repressed, Marik still retains his insanity as basis to influence what he still retains. A mind is a powerful thing even without the influences of the super natural. Not originally of his own body, a power that would linger within Yami no Malik would be the ability to hold his own body, as he never originally had one. His own body though, lacking the connection to his other half, while showing not physical weakness, makes him unstable. Made completely of darkness his hold on the shadow powers would still be there, the ability to make them physical and manipulate them with his still retained capabilities, yet with his use of them and when he does use them he finds himself extremely exhausted, and weakened, stumbling in his steps and his vision blurry. He needs no emotion increase to bring forth the shadows, but he soon finds out that such use of them brings him down to the ground, quite literally. He can still influence those with the power of his Sennen item, but not for longer than an hour tops and not even to the extent of which he could originally. He has the ability to bring it forth to help sway him, but its his words that have to have the largest impact on the victim. Cold and hunger are phantom pains to him, but something he has to get use to otherwise he would freeze or starve. A little stronger than your average human being, he saves most of his energy for his shadows as it was the shadows he was born from.

[edit] History

The embodiment of anger and resentment of everything terrible within the soul of an innocent, Yami no Malik is a character of epic proportions when it comes to the darkness that lingers within the living and breathing self. Born within another soul, he was the product of initiation within the realm of the dead-kings of Egypt, the protectors of the pharaohs fortune, the tomb keepers, an ritual that involved having the secrets of the ancient pharaohs forcefully carved upon ones back. An act placed upon a ten year old boy by the name of Malik, at the will of his father, causing him suffering and agony beyond all realm and measure, against his desires. Anger and hatred, escalated by his need for revenge against what he was put through, the boys personality began to split, slowly but surely. The turning point of all this was an evening in which the child wandered below, coming upon his father beating and whipping harshly into his would-be brother, one of the few souls he trusted to comfort and care for him. The hate that was dwelling beneath the surface of his skin burst and broke free of his mind in the form of another, the darkness, the will against his own suffering, Yami no Malik came to be, a soul based on nothing but the evil and loathing of the world, the beauty of hate. Taking up the Sennen Rod, a piece of a mythical puzzle taken from the past, he slipped free the blade of the item and stabbed to death Maliks father without a second thought. So dark and so full of anger, the concealed dagger was nearly turn on the boys own sister before he was able to seize control of his darkness and right himself once again.

It would be awhile before Yami no Malik showed his face again, lingering deep in the childs soul as he grew, moving on and waiting for that right time. Six years he waited for release and six years later, he achieved it. During a tournament named appropriately Battle City, it was there he rose once more, influencing and spurring his actions upon his entrance to the games, willing him to manipulate and kill to get his way, to kidnap and lie, living off the resentment still so thick within his blood. Because of him, Malik was no longer the happy child he should have grown to be, but the anger-ridden teen with the desire for an intense revulsion for humanity.

It was then, when the same brother he defended within the underground cell he was forced in as a child, fell into a coma upon the battle ship did Yami no Malik finally seek freedom once more, being able to take his weakness and gain control of Maliks body, of his own personal prison. It was during this time that he managed to cause quiet a bit of damage, sending various heroes, villains and companions to the shadow realm, even going as far to momentarily kill a man simply for getting in his way. He sought justice, he sought success, to cleanse the world and nothing would stop him, not even the tears of another. He even goes as far as to bring down the computer systems of the ship that held them above the ground, doing anything in his power to thwart the efforts of success to the protagonists dismay. He attempts to murder his hosts brother were almost successful if not for the attempts of a certain white haired ghost, working along side his lighter side to halt his actions.

Not one to follow the rules, Yami no Malik never took part in a clean duel, he enjoyed making everything into a game that was far more lethal than dueling out a deck of cards and with that, he used the concept of the shadow game. With Mai, one of his victims, every life point she lost a memory of her friends would fade away, before he locked her securely away from the conscious and breathing world. In his battle with Yami no Bakura and his host, Malik, vowing for the use of his body back, his will of the game changed to the fact that a segment of their bodies would also vanish into the shadows which eat hit, in which the pale haired man soon found himself locked away once more inside his prison of a ring, a gift Yami no Malik would take for himself, for not only was he seeking the god cards (his own the Winged Dragon of Ra) for the redemption of the world, all of the Sennen items would do him good, as well.

Forceful and powerful throughout the arc, it was the final duel that brought out the most and meant the most of him. A duel between himself and the main protagonist, Yami no Yuugi. In the match, a shadow duel was created, each having a sacrifice immobilized next to them, to use as their loss. For Yami no Malik, the host of his darkness and for the pharaoh himself, his hikari, Yuugi. Every point lost to their collection made certain that their other halves would loose a fragment of their souls to the shadows that nipped and surrounded them, similar to the duel with Yami no Bakura, but with so much more at stake. The first to entirely lose their other self to the shadows, consequently all their life points as well, was to become the acknowledged loser.

Yet as in most plot lines that deal with the forces of evil in contrast to the forces of good, the man who brought out the evil in Malik was in turn the man who saved him. Rishid, having woken up and made his way to the dueling ring, bestowed within Malik the confidence and vigor needed to forced his will to exchange places with Yami no Malik, who was in turn going to sacrifice his lighter half to succeed and become the victor.

Within only one life point remaining from the fusion with the Winged Dragon of Ra, Malik forfeited the duel with the power had left and in turn, banished Yami no Malik to the shadows and beyond permanently.

But the interesting thing about that is you never know whats lurking around, searching the shadows for its next victim.
